Hi, Im looking to fly out to Orlando at the end of October and the flight that I am looking at has a connection in Washington of 1hour 20 mins. I am just wondering if this is enough time to clear imigration and get my bag rechecked in and onto to my connecting flight in time?

Will the airline not transfer your bags for you automatically? When I went to Vietnam last year, I checked in st Heathrow and didn't see my bags until I got to Ho Chi Minh city.

Its for security reasons I think that you have to get them re checked in when flying in but dont on the way back.

I'm very excited as we go in two weeks! I have been reading my Brit Guide to Orlando and Disney and looking at the Dibb for inspiration.

Any last minute top tips anyone wants to share?

It'll be my husband and daughters (2 1/2yrs old) first time to Orlando and Disney and we have a plan of which parks on which days so we see the parades, rope drop at MK, fireworks etc that we want to, but also know that this is flexible depending on how the LO manages it all. It'll be my 4th time, but I haven't been for 7 years and things have changed!

we also got our villa accommodation sorted - finally!

Just awaiting tickets from VH now.......

NO, 1st point of entry into the USA you have to clear customs and immigration which involves collecting your suitcases going through customs and then handing back in...they should be tagged to the final destination though already by the airline.

One tip I always give, assuming you'll have car, is to get the driving directions to a Wal-mart/Target/Publix near your accomodation.
If(/when) you find you're all awake at 4am the first morning you can go and buy your snacks/drinks/breakfast cereal etc while the store is quiet, get breakfast eaten and still be at the park for rope-drop. :)

We booked our holiday on Sunday :D.
9 of us going from Bristol- Sfb 12/8 returning 26/8. We are staying in Marbella villas and have 2 intermediate cars. Total price £10799.24. Don't tell me how much cheaper we could have got it please, MiL's paying £10k and wouldn't consider split bookings.
I am extremely excited and can't wait for Saturday night this week as DH and I are going to sit with our laptops on our laps and plan our holiday!

Kids are 10 and 8 when we go. I'd happily miss Disney due to the prices. I'd prefer Universal but think we're going to opt for the ultimate tickets which work out at £1300 ish for everything bar sea world, Busch gardens and Aquatica.
I've joined thedibb and will start working my way around that.

Would apreciate some ideas of food costs though? We will be making picnics every day for our days out. Meals in the villa most evenings. It's my nieces birthday when we're there so might go for the Disney meal and limo jobby but not sure yet.

Could do with ideas of prices for packed lunches including rolls with cheese or ham or tuna, crisps, apples or bananas or both and some muesli type bars. Is that the sort of picnic you guys take? It's fairly portable and tends to be cheapest way to eat.
Also, breakfasts, do we go for toast or cereal?

I've got so much to learn :D

  • Guys, when staying in Kissimmee Orlando - is it best to rent a car? We are hoping to go to around the parks (Disney, Orlando, SeaWorld) and wondering if it would be cheaper than taxis? I don't really want to take my chances on the shuttle buses as I haven't heard great things about them.

Have just returned and we stayed in Kissimmee you defo need a car a couple we meet at Hotel got Cabs everywhere like the outlets in cost in the region of $28-$55 it was very Dear are you staying in a hotel most do free transfers to the attractions

We are on International Drive, close to Seaworld and Universal, so we though we'd do those first then rent a car Mid first week until Mid second week to do Disney, Busch Gardens and maybe Daytona during the weekend when I'm assuming the parks will be busier.

Is car hire cheaper locally, or better to book in advance?

Just to say don't bother with packed lunches for SW and BG..they will take them off you at bag search. They will let you take water in.
Never in 8 visits in the last 4 years seen WDW make people bin their packed lunches despite signs saying that you aren't allowed

Find your nearest Walmarts - Publix is much more expensive (don 't know about Target as have not used them).

We mixed eating at our house and eating out in the evenings - there are always deals where kids eat free.

Only went to Disney this year and always took lunch (similar to your suggestion)with use. When we went to Universal a few years ago, we took some food with us however they are more "picky" so we split food into smaller bags and each carried our own.

Breakfast - go for what you like - it is all available
