  • Hello guys!

I need converting to wanting to go to Florida ASAP!!

Hubby has been over there twice in the last 5 years (without me LOL!) and DSS who is 11 has been about 5 times either with his dad or his mum. At the moment they are both excited about this bit of the holiday and I just see it as the bit on the end that means I can do all the other exciting stuff :o

Frankly, if you aren't "converted" by hubby and DSS who are clearly excited about a return trip despite having been there multiple times and who could answer all your questions, then I don't see how anyone here can help with that. My only advice would be having already enjoyed "the other exciting stuff" that YOU are looking forward to, at least go with an open mind and try not to spoil it for them with any pre-conceptions.

as above go with open mind you may even enjoy it and also remember there are other things to do other than the parks in florida.

as you have a car then you have the freedom to explore things like busch gardens, kennedy and some fantastic beaches should you wish.

just to add i never thought i would go to orlando as it is one place that never appealed but after becoming a dad we decided to take daughter last year and i must say really enjoyed it,so much so i am booked up for this year aswell.

Okay so I guess admitting to not being excited about Florida in a thread full of people who clearly are excited about it was perhaps a little niaive but I was at least expecting some kind of 'Florida has lots to offer' response.

    Thanks for the frosty reply.

Thanks Johnny, I wouldn't have bothered posting if I weren't approaching the whole holiday with enthusiasm never mind an open mind. I intend having lots of fun with my family but perhaps I should stick to talking to them about it rather than attempting my own research.

Kind of a bit confused about your response as it seemed to me that you was not interested in gouing either, it did not seem that you was doing research but just complaining about going and was not that interested - I did not reply as I did not know what you was asking other than what 2 parks to go to. And no-one can tell you that as there are so many things to offer but we do not know what you want. That's the point.

You said you do not want to do more than 2 parks but what is it you want to do? See the animals, swim with dolphins, go on the rides etc... For some people Florida is the trip of a lifetime and somewhere they'll never go again having saved up for years to get there, of course they are excited, and for you to come on complining that you have avoided going for 5 years as your MIL has a villa over there was never going to get the best response in all fairness.

I think you SHOULD be talking to your family and finding out what they want to do, go with them or go somewhere else, simple really, but don't spoil it for them, that is not fair.
  • Why on earth would I be asking advice about something I was complaining about? I was asking for advice to get me excited about a place that I have never been interested in and know nothing about from people who know much more than I do.

Which of course you lovely people read as 'I am a miserable cow who wants to make sure my family has a terrible holiday'

Just because I haven't spent my life wanting to go to florida doesn't make me a bad person (or does it?)

It wasn't intended to be frosty! I don't quite understand what you expect.

You seem to have changed your mind now, saying you are approaching the WHOLE trip with enthusiasm. That was not clear in your original post.

After all, you did say[QUOTE to be perfectly honest it has never struck me as somewhere that interests me, I have spent the last 5 years avoiding going.
    And
I just see it as the bit on the end that means I can do all the other exciting stuff
    [/QUOTE]

That said we are a helpful bunch on here so if you would like any specifics answered about beaches, quiet and family, non theme park attractions, off the beaten track small towns, small islands, National Parks, wildlife safaris ........Ask away. If you just show a little interest or enthusiasm it will come right back at you!

Rather strange reply contradicting the comment you made in a post earlier saying you have avoided going for 5 years and need some help to get motivated about going.
Apologies if my original post seemed to be patronising or rude it was not meant to be i was merely pointing out i went last year although it was never really a destination i was enthusiastic about,so much so i had originally booked week in orlando and week in miami to make sure i never had 2 weeks of parks etc.as it turned out miami was a dump so spent 2nd week in orlando anyway.

As for the question about parks it is a difficult one to answer as everyone is different, what parks are of interest to you and your family? There are so many to choose from but only wanting to spend 2 days in parks means you need to be really picky.
  • Are there any nice drives in Orlando/Florida? I had a convertible whilst in Califoria and quite fancy getting one again, however looking up information about it there's a few daying all the drives around the area aren't anything special. Since it would cost more dough, just wondering if anyone could recommend it.

when i went last march i did a fair amount of driving around in florida but in my opinion nothing special enough to warrant a cruise round in convertible.the majority of driving seems to either be on i-drive or interstate/toll roads.

but then again everyone has different experiences so someone may be able to suggest a nice drive
