Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 15th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Where is everyone????
Ooh never started this before! Have been waiting for someone to start it lol, worked out how to do it eventually.
Been up since 4 with DS again.
have had terrible migraine again for last 2 days maybe stress of getting ready for the 6 weeks hols.
Loads to do today, a pile of ironing, hairdressers at 11 30, must finish laminating DS Rebus symbols for his schedules and get them sorted.
Have done my Sainsburys shop online for when we get back from our break at my parents and it had lots more ready made things which I never buy and it killed me ordering them but it is only for the 6 weeks DS is off school then it is back to OS proper again......I just can`t do that type of cooking when I have DS to look after....never even get a minute to go to loo alone lol
have good days all...will check back later

Morning NPM and all to follow,

NPM I hope your migraine starts to improve soon xx

Off to work again today, dont fancy going really but hey ho.

Sausage chips and beans for tea, dd will have veggie sausages, need to do at least one wash tonight, its so difficult to get it dry with all the rain we have been having.

I booked the holiday yesterday, we are going just outside Taunton for a week on the 22nd August :T it will be nice to get away, I will plan to take most of our food with us, otherwise it costs a fortune each day

Sainsbugs delivery tonight. Just looking at the forecast and more rain for the next two weeks  good old Brittish Summer.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

I was in a grump this morning because DS has been up since 4.30. And then I read your post NPM and I feel a tiny bit ashamed of myself. You have so much more to deal with than me and I am just grumpy because I've been woken too early. Your post put things into perspective for me :o
With regards to your son are you not entitled to any respite care, even if it was for just an hour or would your son not cope? Don't feel bad about ordering the ready meals. You do what you have to and if this makes your life easier during 6 weeks hols then you shouldn't upset yourself about it.

Apart from me needing matchsticks to prop open my eyes I want to make the kids some biscuits. I normally buy Organix finger biscuits but you only get 12 in a packet and the kids just eat them too fast. Going to make some finger biscuits of their own as it's got to be cheaper than buying them.
Tea tonight is cajun chicken (not OS at all as it's a jar but I could never make it as good as the stuff Discovery make so this is my one indulgence). I will bung it in the SC though so that's sort of OS :rotfl:
My second lot of carrots are doing really well. I need to get some more seeds actually so if I can get up the garden centre I shall go spend some money oooooooooh don't I live the high life :rotfl:
Despite my netting I noticed some white cabbage butterfllies had got in around my brassicas  They'd better not be laying anything that's going to munch their way through my crop

Anyway no yoga today too tired but am going to put the dinner on to cook.
Have a good day everyone OS or not.

    Edited to add:
NPM - sorry forgot to mention your migraine. Hope that passes soon x
Redruby - I love Taunton and down that way. It's where I'd like to move to if we ever get the chance. Can't believe this summer is turning into another wash out grrrrrr
Fairy Elephant - good luck with your scan today. I really hope everything is OK.

    .

You will need to go out twice a day, morning and eve, and check the underside of all the leaves  the little B*****s lay their eggs, and before you know it half your cabbages will be gone , I scrape the eggs off with a stick and crush them :o, I have not done any brassicas this year, as I was fed up fighting them.

    Morning All

Bitsy - we lost all our cabbages this year - looked one day & there were about 20 caterpillars on 1 leaf. Looked into our tomato plant problem and it seems like we need some Epsom Salts so will be on the lookout for them today. Had some homegrown beetroot last night and its very nice.

Well its nearly the end of the week :jwill be in my office this morning, popping to town for some errands around lunchtime then baking this afternoon, will make some fudge brownies to take round a friends who has invited us for a barbeque.

Looks like the farmer opposite has stopped cutting the hay in the field so can clean the house (or rather OH will) it just wasnt worth it before. We will also need to clean the pool as the filter is blocked with bits of hay.

Off now for a surf - have a great day.

    Morning all:hello:

Gosh, it's been a while since I visited this thread:o

The Thrift household is off to France on Saturday:jA week in a gîte in the Calvados region of Normandy. I've already had a conversation with the owner on the phone where I said 'sorry I didn't understand, can you repeat it' a lot :rotfl:My French can't be that bad though because she seemed to understand me. It is hard to understand words you are not familiar with on the phone.

Anyway today and tomorrow I'm preparing for our trip. What food to take and more importantly which of my cookery books to take. I always take cookbooks on holiday. I read them in the evening at home so I need them on holiday too. But which ones? French ones seem the obvious choice but they're all a bit big. Maybe some Elizabeth David or perhaps Nigel Slater's Real Fast Food which is compact and full of fab and fast things to do with fresh ingredients:think:

When I have made that important choice I'm going to bake a huuuuge batch of Twink's hobnobs. I checked out the recipe last night. Have you seen how many thanks it has -over 600!!, you have to scroll down for ages to get to the end of them.

I'm not sure how much time we will have to buy food on Saturday and I think shops are generally closed on Sunday so I'm going to roast a chicken tomorrow and take the meat off. I shall take some tomatoes and new potatoes and a jar of hm vinaigrette. Cold chicken, potato salad and sliced tomatoes will do us two evening meals. I've got some bars of Green & Blacks for dessert -well it is easier to pack than fruit.

I'm doing ham and cheese wraps for our picnic on Saturday (I think they'll take up less room than rolls or sandwiches), plus apples and hobnobs.

I'm looking forward to shopping for our supper every day in France rather than stocking up for the week. Some nice fish or a bit of steak, maybe a pork chop, some salad ingredients, bread and some fruit. Or perhaps some fabulous cheese (we'll be in the heart of cheese country after all), some charcuterie and olives, a tarte from the patisserie and some wine of course or cider........

We hope to eat out as well but I have to remember that I'm supposed to be Thriftlady or La Dame d'Economie ;):D

i hope the migrane imporves very soon and you manage to get some rest today among your to do list
i hope the summer isnt a washout, we were promised a nice one a month ago.
at the mo its ok here blue skys etc - managed to get all of yesterdays washing dry and in and did another load overnight thats waiting to go out.
made more muffins yesterday this time mincemeat ones (with a jar i found lurking in the back of the cupboard) and chocolate ones. not doing any today or we will be overrun with the things.
DS didnt get in to see harry potter, he was gutted the cinema was heaving. when his friends rang offering to take him i thought theyd booked the tickets. plan is to try again today.
i hope you got in alright pippa and enjoyed it.

nimbo i bet my iroing pile is taller than yours;).

ive got something nibbling my lettuces, cant work out what yet-weve even been out at night with a torch to try and catch the little blighter, it does seem to have slowed donw over the last couple of nights which probally means the little pest is now so fat it cant climb up the sides of the container to munch them any more. i hope you manage t ostop the cabbage white catterpillars munching your brassicas.

i hope the little ones start getting better sleep so the parents nights improve, just a thought is it light thats getting them up early when ours were young we put blackout linings on th bedroom curtains to try and stop them getting up as soon as the sun came up. other thing isheat/fresh air Vs noise/bird song etc but thats was catch 22 for us as well live between a pub and a park so if we leave the windows open to let them not be so stuffy they get all the noise and chatter from the late night revellers leaving the pub and the late nigt pre teens with illiccit booze and lord knows what on the park:mad:.

i hpe everyones day has something good in it to make them smile and i hope the poorlies or ones with worries get some relief from those.

    Good morning :D

My DS3 has gone in for his last ever day at primary school. He's not at all bothered bt it all - it's me  :o Kids usually seem to cope with these things better than we parents. The other 3 have finished now so 6 weeks of mayhem starts tonight :rotfl: Actually it won't be too bad as the elder 3 have always got plans involving 'mates' and DS3 & I tootle all over Manchester going to free exhibitions, swimming, picnics etc. DD, DS1 & DS3 are also all booked on a Youth Hostel Association activity camp in August which will be brilliant for them. The others have all been before but it's DS3's first time. The older 2 are going on a Young Leaders camp so they can work on them next year. It ties in well with their college courses as DD is doing Childcare & DS1 is starting a BTEC Sports Diploma in September.

Plans for today are to have a quick tidy & vac round, make the sweet & sour that we didn't have yesterday and go to the leavers Mass & Assembly at 1pm at school.

NPM Hope the headaches stop for you soon xx

FairyElephant Everythings crossed here for you xx

Pen Pin Hope your ok & enjoy your break xx

((hugs)) to anyone else who needs one & enjoy your days

    Good morning all.

Well back from a lovely 2 weeks in Spain and feel very rested! I haven't read back at all on any threads so hope I haven't missed anything too exciting - if so please let me know!!!!!:D

Weather here is not too bad this morning although rain is forecast. I have loads of washing to catch up on, none of mine - as because we were stopping in my brothers house I washed things as we went along so brought a suitcase of clean clothes home so that I didn't have trouble of drying in bad weather - however - DD has stacks in the wash basket and I don't think she has done any whilst we were away, you just wouldn't believe the number of dirty towels stacked up! House needs a good clean and will have to do a big shop too. Good job I am not back at work till Monday. On the good side my garden has survived whilst we were away and we have loads of toms nearly ready. Potatoes are waist high - can anybody tell me when they are ready to dig up please!?!?!

Whilst I have been away appts have started to arrive for the investigations I have to have done and I have to go for 4 different scans tomorrow afternoon, then some further investigations on 30th. Not looking forward to those I can tell you!!! Ah well back to reality!

NPM hope the migraine eases off.

Right better start - have a good day everyone.

    xxx

Edited to say - OOOhhh got a wierd Like it button - when did that appear??????
