I know a lot more than 7 people who have lost their jobs. Some of them are reemployed, some are becoming self employed, many are changing areas/industry. Some are not reemployed.

An aquaintance in building/maintenance is travelling further for work, but has seen a (predicted) upsurge as his company get a lot of seasonal work in summer.

ETA: a similar thread on job creation might be interesting: it is happening, in a small way.

Who are all these people who you consider to have contributed to the crash and what unspeakable horror do you hope they will later suffer?!
  • I have not voted because I dont know personally anyone who has lost their job.Theres no 0 option on the poll.
MIL has had her hours reduced though by 1 day a week,OH,s company stopped weekend overtime (he is salaried anyway so he just gets the same pay but every weekend off now so its been good for him). But no-one I know has lost their job

Only one - he came for an interview on Tuesday. Shame, but the job went to a new graduate.
  • Funny you should say that... a grand total of 3, two of which have been given whopping redundancies and one of them spent part of it on going and watching the entire Lions tour, at a cost of £11k!

I know a lot of people who have lost their jobs, mostly as a result of one firm that I knew going under. On top of that I probably know of about another 10 from other firms.

People from the firm that went over had a double trauma as they had the administrators go through sorting out the finances without knowing how much money they would actually end up with and their salaries not going into the bank when they expected, while those who were made redundant from a going concern at least went through a process so the shock wasn't quite so immediate.

I'm from a property related background so a lot of companies I know have been badly hit.

The good news is that many of those who are talented, hard working and have transferable skills that can be used outside of property have for the most part managed to find something else. The ones finding it hardest are those with a construction-related skill, some of whom are having to take lower paid jobs in different industries just to keep ticking over.

if any of us knew exactly who to blame then im sure there would be worldwide lynchings etc. however, the crash was caused by so many, over the entire world, that justice will never be done. just annoys me especialy as there is nothing any of us can do about it! bah

I know two people out of work - one through redundancy and one who just got let go...can't say whether that would have happened irrespective of "the climate", but I expect so..

    Where is the "0" option?

And in addition, where is the "Not applicable, I have no friends" option?
