Well, I put two of my staff 'at risk' today and started the 30 day consultation on redeployment. More next week...

This time last year we had between about 30 - 35 people (on various jobs). Today we have 4 including myself and hubby. The other two are taken on as and when we bits are to be finished in the job that is still running. After that we will be another 4 if nothing comes in!

I only know one, my best mate who was made redundant from Northern Rock.

Obviously if you asked her though, she'd say she knew lots more!

I know one abroad who was laid off in the last month - and one person who has been laid off 2-3 times this year, managing to get another job within 7-10 days each time so far luckily (decorator)

The company my brother works for, in the IT department made 25% (5) of the workforce redundant at Heathrow.

The company my OH works for made 10% (3) redundant in Weybridge.

A couple of friends; one an accountant, one freelance for the MOD and one in construction have also been made redundant this year.

Where I work (in the public centre) they have to make savings of over £1m and are cutting staff through 'natural wastage'.

I am sure I will hear of more in the coming months which is a real shame.

  • none for me.... (but no poll option)

I have quite a large circle of friends and the most we've all had is a consultation period, but then thats pretty standard every few years anyway at many places I have worked as the business ensures its staying lean and not bloating up unnessecerily.

I sometimes wonder if it werent for the internet and the media, if i or any of my friends would have the slightest idea there was a recession!

Ok, energy / fuel prices may have spiked a bit but they soon came back down... (but no, i dont think a Pound a Litre is cheap!) Only cost me £30 odd quid a month more in any case which isnt enough to feel a pinch.

I have a fixed rate morgage (5%) so wouldnt notice there.

I reckon its a big conspiracy by the government to keep us all panicing and under their control. None of it is really happening, its all made up (joke!)

the only change my mate at Lehmans got was a new e-mail address for barcap! lol

I know three, all were laid off from circa 100K jobs early this year with huge settlements. All were working again within 4 months on the same money. 2 of the 3 for the same company that laid them off but now as contractors/consultants. And for the same money as before, but now they keep more of it AND have a big settlement in the bank. Bizarre.
