How long does FOS take

  • Hi everyone, I have today received a letter from Bank of Scotland.

After 5 paragraphs of wind, and because I am a valued customer they have decided to pay me an amount which will put me back in the position I would have been in had I not taken the insurance. This is done without admission of liability and in full and final settlement of my complaint about the PPI on my loan.

It then goes on to say, if I have an account with BOS that is in arrears it is their policy to offset the amount of redress etc... I do not have an account with BOS anymore, so this shouldn't be an issue.

It is aniticipated this payment will be made within the next month, so fingers crossed.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, and I wish everybody all the best with their claims, and to keep fighting this process has really opened my eyes.

  • I thought, as my MP did help me I'd write her a thank you letter. Please see below.

    Dear Mrs Moon

Re My Complaint about HBOS PPI to the Financial Ombudsman Service

I am writing to thank you for your help in this matter. You will see attached a copy of a letter from Bank of Scotland, offering to pay me an amount which will put me back in the position I would have been in had I not taken the insurance. Although, as you can see they are not admitting any liability or wrong doing I see this as a success.

Over the last 2 years of complaining about the policy I was mis-sold, I have become aware of thousands of people in a similar situation to me. I am sure this is just a small proportion of the customers who have been sold this type of insurance policy.

I just hope the government, with all the billions of pounds it has invested and organisations such as the FSA and FOS can clear up what is obviously a corrupt and morally bankrupt banking and financial services sector.

    Yours sincerely

    Matthew

  • Can you believe I am still waiting for the Bank of Scotland to pay me my money? It took them 6 weeks to calculate the refund and it has been 3 weeks waiting for them to pay up.

How frustrating is this? They must be doing this on purpose...

I got my letter dated 23 november saying they would be in contact within a month and i would have a payment within a month. Same situation as you, got my calculation just within 4 weeks and then told i would have to wait a further 28 days for payment. My 28 days are up next Monday. I rang on Friday to see if they had any idea when it would be issued and I was told it would be at the end of the 28 day period.

I agree with you, so very frustrating!!
  • Cheers for your comments... I don't understand how they can be wrong, admit they are wrong... be dragged kicking and screaming to put it right and still be in the driving seat and determining where they want to pay.

My 28 day period is up on Friday, I wonder if the snow is going to be a factor.

I know its not really ideal but you should get another months statutory interest on top of the redress if they are dragging their feet.;)
  • Thanks for telling me that... It's worth knowing... I prefer to get paid, my credit cards charge me more than the 8%. But still, its another stick to hit them with. God I've gone though some sticks over the last 2 years
