Where do you get your tyres and how much do you pay?

  • Looking at camskill, the Falkens at under £40 (add a tenner for fitting) are a cheapish tyre that performs very well. It'll wear out in under 10k miles of normal driving though.

Not a problem for me as my tyres usually take a hammering so I prefer a tyre that doesn't last for the reasons I pointed out before about carcass wear.

Even Khumo tyres seem to be rated OK these days, I believe they use 2nd generation tread patterns from a big brand manufacturer.

There are some useful tyre review sites out there if you search.

Anyone interested in getting a 5% discount wth Blackcircles can use the code EDRED21 on the checkout page where the voucher code box is. My girlfriend works for the NHS and it was on their discount website - we used it tonight and it worked a treat, unlike the ones on Myvouchercodes etc.....
  • OH (ex mechanic) took delivery just this morning of his very own tyre fitting stand/machine thingy. I think he tucked it in to bed. He seems quite miffed that I haven't even ventured down to the workshop to see it...bless.

We've been using part worn for years- arm yourself with some knowledge, and you should be fine. After all, a car that's only done enough miles to run in the engine still has part worn tyres, but could have been written off for a multitude of reasons.

I go to the scrappy and buy a new steel wheel with a decent tyre on it. Often the best examples are the spares. In the Reading area that's £10.
Do you need it? Yep. Really? Yes! How have you managed for the last 28 years without it? Erm....
    NO NAUGHTY SHOPPING Bex.

Any decent part worn specialist place will have hundreds of the same tyre, so getting a matching pair/set will be no problem.

£50 for a matching pair of Continentals, fitted etc that will last a few years or £50 per budget tyre that will last 12 months...

You can buy decent good quality budget tyres that offer excellent grip and wear - Nankang and Hankook spring to mind.

I ran Hankooks on the back of my 535d after the original Conti's (which lasted just 10000 miles) and found the grip to be pretty much equal in terms of getting the power to the road and overall grip. My wife has Hankooks on her 3.0i z4 and a friend of ours runs them on his Alfa GTA.

No way i'd trust a second hand tyre.

One of which might be sliding down the road at 70MPH sideways and into a hedge? But you wont know that or the impact it has had on the tyre or its carcass.

We have three vehicles always use budget and have cost no more than £55 each.
    Avensis i think were £45.00 each,Tourneo were £55 .
Best thing to do is ring around half a dozen places someone will come up with a reasonable price. In most places there are garages that sell part worn top of the range tyres if you look around.

Hi, Blackcircles are a large national online company. If you select 'fully fitted' they then give you a choice of several local independant depots to have them fitted at. In my area I get a list of about 12 within 10 miles , however the nearest just happens to be the one I would go to any way. When I wanted 4 tyres last year the cheapest other qoute for 4 X Michelin Synchrone was 4 x £145. Blackcircles charged 4 x £95.
