    Two points......

Yes, I could get an Electron card, but in any case where is the fairness in charging a flat payment fee 'per person per trip' rather than a percentage of the final transaction, like most sensible companies do? That is what covers their costs since this is also the way they are charged for the transaction by the credit card companies. Anything above this is pure profit. The charges on EasyJet would have been a more palatable £13.50 rather than £40 at Ryanair. Sadly EasyJet didn't have the flights we wanted available.

What really made be see red with Ryanair was the enforcement of the entire fee for a second time just for an amendment to a booking whose cost was going to come to rather less than the fee was going to be. I see no justification of excuse for that.

They are making no profit out of me. I am paying £2 for a return. If they did not charge for these extras, then they would put the price up on the rest of the flights for people who do not want to make changes. Even with the charge it still only £10 extra for a return. You can get as far away as Milan,Poland for £12. I see that as very good value for money. I can not even get a train to London from 50 miles away for that price. Some one else above has got 46 flights. 46 flights with BA would be cost thousands. I like having the options to choose from. They give me choice and options. I pay for what I use and not what I do not need. I appluad for Ryan air that option. If I want more comfort I will go with BA etc

The thing is with Ryanair - if you know the rules and play the game you get a superb deal. If you don't then it can cost you. I play the game by the rules and have spent less than £100 on about 8 return flights for 2 of us in the last 12 months.... no amendments to bookings, only pay by Electron, print off your own boarding card in the specified time, only take hand luggage and only check-in online (which you have to now anyway).

Another thing to remember is that your charged extra if you wish to check in luggage. Luckily hand luggage up to 10kg is free, and I don't think they even check this.

I've also been googling the different places I could fly to from birmingham, but its been taking hours. Can anyone reccomend somewhere a bit different, where the prices wont be to high. We'd probably book a hostel or camp unless we could get a cheap last minute hotel. Anywhere you've been or a friend has thats nice, and not to expensive for general day to day costs.

Thanks to anyone who can help out :)

I think I've read on here that they do check luggage from time to time. There are limited dimensions: 55 x 40 x 20cm and not more than 10kg. If you have excess baggage the charges are hefty.

They sometimes check your luggage at Stansted security. I flew with German Wings and twice BAA Security weighed my bag and told me to go and check it in, German Wings have a 5kg limit. Ryanair might start asking them to weigh it so it's best to be safe...

both of my suitcases are just slightly wider than the 20cm limit - is it worth me spending out on two new ones or do you think they will be ok with the extra 3 or 4 cm's? they wont be rammed so i will be able to squash them down maybe if they make me put them in those metal things? im flying out sat from stanstead and back sunday from glasgow and really dont want to waste any money where i dont need too

    thanks
