Housin Benefit registration problem

Hi
I claim Jobseeker`s Allowance for 5 months and I try to claim some support Housing Benefit and Council Tax but I have problem with finishing my application form for a H. Benefit because I rent flat
With my girlfriend (we are not married) She is from EU country and she has flat abroad and H. Benefit Office wants value of this property to finish registration process. (She had that property before we met) Is this right? I am the person who needs help from City Council not my partner because she work and she is got income. Getting the value of this property is so complicated and cost lots of money in her country (travel costs ect...).Anyone has idea how to avoid this problem?
Thanks Rob

You would be treated as a couple for benefit purposes and if your girlfriend works you may not be eligable for LHA/ctb at all and yes the property overseas does have to be included in your claim.
There is no way to avoid this.0 -
That souds stupid,She is a owner not me and she have no benefits from this property(her parents live in this flat)0

You and her reside together, thus are classified as a "couple" or "partners" for benefit purposes, and therefore any means tested benefit is based upon your joint circumstances, no matter who wishes to make they claim. Means tested benefit is only ever based upon single circumstances if you are classified as a single person for benefits purposes.0

then why is it her property and not their's. May sound "stupid" to you but if you expect free money then you have to abide the regulations. Simple really.

seriously, there is nothing you can do, no way you can avoid it. even if you didnt declare your partners property on the initial application form, if the council came to do a random intervention visit, you would get done for fraud sooner or later. sorry its probably not what you want to hear, but thats the way it works here.0
