Hi all, am so inspired by MSE that i thought id join in the fun of a diary!
A bit about me, im now 23, was a spendaholic and never thought twice about going out and just buying something! im still battling with my demons even now. i paid off one of my credit cards balances 2 months ago then ended up buying again. to combat this, i have given my credit cards to my OH to hide from me as i dont want to cut them up incase of an emergency! so now im back down to £90 on capital one.
My debt is currently:
Capital one cc: £90/£200
Barlcaycard: £197/£260
natwest loan: £10,210
Empire stores catalogue: £238/£2700
dnt get me wrong, my totals arent huge (except the loan) but they are big enough for me to struggle to pay them all each month, especially with the loan payments being £378 a month! (my credit report is in tatters!)
I have had a spreadsheet of my incomings and outgoings every month since May 2008 but as i said before, i have been battling demons and still been spending.
Since i found MSE im finally getting some control! I have a sealed pot for wedding savings, i do No spend days (20 a month aim!), and also do Payment a day!
I plan to have capital one paid off next friday (payday!), barclaycard and empire by september and the loan is the biggy!
I am currently fighting natwest for a ppi claim worth over £4,000. this will obviously reduce it a lot!
Im also saving for my wedding which is next November and need to get £6,000 saved up! these are my challenges and i hope to complete them on time!
SO heres my timeframe:
Capital one: 24th July 09
Barclaycard: 25th august 09
Empire stores: 25th August 09
Natwest loan: Xmas 2009!
Wedding 6,000: July 2010!
Heres to 2010 being THE year! :T

Hiya
I agree, this site is so motivating, I have just started a diary today too to try to keep me motivated. I have pretty much got all my household expenses down to the minimum, except my food, I need to work on that one, but have you thought about posting a SoA on here? You will get loads of good advice.
Good luck.

I have also started a new diary! I was exactly like yourself and seemed to clear debt then just run it up again or i would just keep spending when there was no need! Well done on setting yourself some challenges i'll be sure to follow and see how you get on with them. Good luck with the PPI claim i'm also fighting with Capital One for my charges back!Winging life....0

Hi Keza!
Well done for posting a diary and welcome to the board!
We are quite similar actually as I have just started a diary to pay off around £7k worth of debt and am also saving for a wedding. Maybe we can motivate each other!

Hi guys and gals! thanks for your support.
I have just used the £60 i had saved in the wedding pot to constructivley pay off £60 payment to the xmas savings club.
i have a body shop party tomorrow night and have decided that will replace the savings from the pot for nowmight even change my mind and use it to pay off a debt and start the savings when the dreaded credit cards have gone!
Last payment of £400 from the 'new house' credit card next friday which is my OH's. i have paid off £1200 from that as my contribution to our new home :T (thought id better help as he saved up the £20k deposit!)

Well yesterday was a no spend day for me whoop! i plan on having another today. a client is taking me out for lunch so i didnt even have to bring my own ropey sarnies into work! all good!
body shop party tonite and they are expecting 16 people! so should be a good night for commission to drag my way back out of my overdraft once more !
i also made the very good decision to focus all spare cash on paying off credit cards then start the wedding saving in a few months. i dont earn a great deal of interest on my titchy £91 wedding savings so this could be better used paying off a 35% credit card! have a good day all! xxCurrent Mortgage balance - £363,785.35/£420,000 (highest point Oct 2022).0 -

Hi all, sorry got to share this, i have just had another LBM! and im so so excited!
Why am i trying to save for a wedding when i have a 17.9% loan around my neck! silly! so i got my finance plan spreadsheet on my screen and has a rejig!
Im going to pay off my loan by xmas this year! so long as natwest refund my ppi, i will be left with just over 5k to pay. im going to use any money i was going to save to pay off this 5k and give it a good thrashin with a view to being DEBT FREE by xmas 2009! wish me luck!Current Mortgage balance - £363,785.35/£420,000 (highest point Oct 2022).0 -
