Thanks for all your replies everyone. I think basically I will be fine if he goes.

As for the issue of child support (from the childrens father not my partner). I went through many battles years ago and will never receive any money from my ex-husband. He jumped through hoops to avoid the CSA and attachment of earnings. He job hopped, lied, tried to get extra nights to reduce his liability. In the end I said I could well live without his £100 a month for my three kids and work every hour I can.

Nowadays he is unemployed and has had two babies with the woman he left us for.

    Thanks again.

I've just put your details into entitledto and you should receive roughly £139 per week CTC and £25 per week WTC.

Plus, of course, your child benefit.

You would not receive help with your rent or council tax, except for the 25% single adult rebate.

    Hth :)

Thankyou Bestpud, that was very kind of you to do that!

Basically I think on £1000pm wages, £710CTC&WTC, plus £175CB - total £1885 I should be absolutely able to manage!

I can relax a bit on that score now. Just have to deal with the stressful emotional part now ....

Good luck from another Mum of 3, separated last August. You'll be fine financially. The emotional stuff will be tough to start with, but gets better with time.

As for the child support. I also gave up on child support from my first husband for similar reasons. It wasn't worth the trouble, he was never going to pay. He's a layabout who has had at least 3 more kids with 2 women that I know of!

Hope you get through the tough stuff quickly, so you can get on with your life.
  • Hello everyone,

I just wanted to update you because you were all so helpful when I originally posted this.

Well things with my partner went from really bad to dire and as expected things came to a head. There was no shouting but tons of talking and I told him I had sought advice about going solo - he took this to mean I wanted him gone and looked for a flat which tore him apart and gave him a huge wake-up call - and me too. We talked an awful lot more (and are still talking very openly which is new for us!) and resolved stuff that had literally been building up for years.

We are not splitting up, when push came to shove we realised exactly what we had and how much better it could be with a little effort. He is making every effort to leave his work stresses at work and be a real human being. I feel like I have a new man and both of us can't stop smiling.

Thanks for all your advice! :o)

That is fantastic news - at least there is some hope that couples just don't give up at the first opportunity - hope it works out for you.

It is refreshing to see 2 people willing to work at a relationship. Well done, both of you.
