Just check-in at the earliest time possible.

We've never been split up on flights and have never pre-booked seats except on BA and only then for free using OLCI 24 hours before a flight.

see my earlier post above about Thomas Cook's policy on allocating seats at Stansted.
Does the same apply for if you fly from Gatwick as that's where we are flying from? Getting close now, just under 2 weeks to go.:A

Sorry, Endora, we've not flown from Gatwick with Thomas Cook so I can't answer that - maybe you could email them to ask.

Decided to pre-book our plane seats in the end, did it this morning online, process seemed straight forward but the TC airplane only has 2 rows of 3 seats going down the plane, as I thought though all the exit seats were already pre-booked (at a cost of £36  for each seat per person and that was only one way!!), not sure if we would've booked them at that price. There still seemed to be plenty of spare seats going so opted to put my hubby in an aisle seat and me next to him leaving a spare seat next to the window, when I put this selection in though a message came up stating that you are not able to leave a window seat spare on it's own!! In the the end I had to opt for aisle seats for the both of us each way but next to each other (if you get my drift), that way at least we both get to stretch our legs out in the aisle, although I'm only 5ft 9" tall I've got long legs (34" inside measurement) and my hubby is 6ft 1" and of a big build. Good job the flight is only 4.5hrs. By the way total cost of seats was £52!

Just an update on my previous post, what a nightmare of a flight my hubby had. I only just about had enough leg room but he had to suffer as the person sitting in front of him decided to recline their seat and this meant he had no leg room whatsoever, he had to swing his legs out into the aisle but this was busy with a constant flow of passengers go to and from the toilets and then the trolley dollies going up and down. Looking to book our next holiday again through TC but this time we are hoping to pay for the extra leg room seats as the flight will be 5.5hrs!

Just booked our holiday for next year with TC, going to Luxor in Egypt in March. Paid deposit yesterday and also paid the small amount extra for "Your seat/Your choice option. Was informed by the TC agent that we could book seats with extra legroom within 48 hours of us booking the holiday so I tried this morning (less than 24hrs after booking), went on the TC Airlines website and managed to book us the extra legroom seats :T at a cost of £60 each return which I think is money well spent considering the nightmare journey we had to Cyprus in May.
  • I always pay the extra for extra legroom seats. I think their charges are a ripoff mind you especially as I like to pick specific seats.

  • I remember a couple of years ago being railroaded by a holiday rep into prebooking seats for our return flight (there were 8 of us) & agreeing to do so. DH & I wanted to check straight in when we got to the airport, but my father in law wanted to avoid the cattle market queue & so we all sat down & waited for check in to die down. Lo & behold we arrived at the check in desk to be told we DIDNT have prebooked seats at all & were scattered all over the place. Fortunately we got a refund (after arguing for several minutes with the rep who'd cajoled us into booking them!) but never again will I book prebooked seats!
