on all recipes you can check to uk 'metric' measurements by clicking that option and pressing update. i find it so useful!

    Ooh thanks for that! :j

My heart sinks whenever I see only US measurements and so that will be really useful. x

ive merged this with our baking quick questions thread. WHat did you end up making in the end? Often you can replace an egg with a banana or some milk.

    These threads may help

    American cup measurements

If you cook a lot, it's definitely worth buying a cheap set of cups. I have this set and was given an old style stainless steel set by OH mum. On a side note, he put the dishes away a few weeks ago and didn't put the biggest cup with the rest of them so my blue set is now missing the biggest cup. I can't blimmin find it, and it's driving me insane:o. He thinks it's hilarious.:rotfl:

Great thanks! I rolled everything out on baking paper to stop it sticking to the table, with lots of icing sugar to stop the sticking.

Mixing white with red to make pink worked really well, thanks everyone!

  • Hi all,

I use Hugh F-W's Magic bread dough recipe which calls for half strong bread flour and half plain flour; my question is can I use Chapatti flour instead of the plain as I couldn't get smart price plain flour and the Chapatti flour was a lot cheaper than any of the others. Even if I can't use it for this recipe I do make chapattis and naans so it won't be wasted.

    Many thanks

    Have a super fun day x x

Depends on the chapati flour but as it's half and half it's probably fine, particularly if you sieve out the bran tho' it may be a little less soft. See:

    Hi all,

My sister and I fancy doing some baking today but are a bit stumped for ideas. We want to make something sweet, not too bad for the waistline, any suggestions please??

In our stores we have the following:
    - flour plain and SR
    - sugar: brown, icing and caster
    - stork
    - raisins & walnuts
    - plenty of colourings and flavours
    - cocoa powder.

I don't want to buy anything as today is to be a NSD.
we have no eggs thought, think thats where we are stuck!!
    Thank you!!

This cake is lovely and also eggless:

You don't taste the vinegar. It helps the cake rise.

I've made it a few times and everyone loves it.
