  • We used to use Xmas cake decorations that had little lumps of 20+ year old icing on them ... probably had lead paint on them too.

totally fine, when I've made cakes of strange shapes (don't ask, it was when the kids were little) i used to cover cardboard in tinfoil to use as cake boards

Well personally I don't use the all in one method , I beat the sugar and marge together , then the eggs one at a time and stir the flour in with a metal spoon , I've never had a failure.. but I think the all in one method works equally well ... mark 4 for 25-30 mins sounds ok... maybe someone else will spot a reason why... does it just not rise? or does it sink in the middle?

I put it into two separate sandwich tins is that what you mean by all in. It is flat nothing to sink lol like a frisbee darn it. Going to eat it though!

  • Hmm, I add mine in stages, the way Tanith described above, but mum uses all in one and into the mixer... The only times either of them hasn't risen is when someones got a bit impatient and opened the oven door a lot while its cooking!
