Looks like you'd better believe it!

The story is that T-Mobile & Orange will get access to iPhone 3G, but O2 will retain exclusivity on the iPhone 3GS.

Note that iPhone 3GS has a faster processor than the 3G (twice as fast?).

or another way at looking at it is ...

O2 currently will not offer iphone 3GS OR older 3G models at a reduction on upgrage or through retentions to keep existing loyal customers.

but loyal customers to another rival will be offered iphones (probably discounted) regardless whether they are current or "old" models to stop them defecting to O2.

Current O2 customers will probably not benefit either way as they would be starting as a new customer with T-mobile/orange etc ...

    life's great lol

I've had one for over a year and I love it, best phone I've had, and I've had a lot! I like it so much I want the newer one (mine is a first gen jailbroken battered old thing now!). Matter of opinion I suppose...

Makes sense really- great news for those on O2 who don't really want the 3GS but would perhaps like the 3G on PAYG with a SIM only deal;). I suspect that the PAYG Iphone may come down in price if T-Mobile and Orange start to sell them in their stores:).

Depends what you like - I love mine but want a bigger one. I would happily have continued one of my T-Mobile contracts to get one, but not if they are only doing the 3G.

BTW - The register article say 'in the next few months' not this week as the op suggests.

Anyhow doesn't sound like it'll be any good to me either way.

I'm on O2 and my contract is up in January- I would buy an Iphone but the contract is not good enough for the monthly outlay.

Knowing O2 instead of maybe dropping the price of the PAYG 3G Iphone they likely will not stock it any more as soon as T-Mobile/Orange do.

I need to upgrade my old iphone so any competition is good news for me! Sick of O2 running the show. Nearly £400 for a 3G when American's can pick one up for $98!!

I do love my iphone though and wouldn't consider switching to another phone.
