Best Online Banking - System

  • I bank with HSBC and my OH banks with NatWest,

I like using hsbc online banking as it lets me do everything i need to do, to my account, eg - apply for new producs, change my address and even apply for a bigger overdraft!

My OH does not like Natwest banking, because it did not allow her to change her address when we moved, in her words, all she can is transfer money and view her statements and f**k all else!.

She plans to move to hsbc once she graduates!!!!

I have recently opened an account with the Cooperative. On my first log on I was very disappointed to see how basic it is. The statements include very little information, you can't apply for other products and you cannot send secure messages.

However, the biggest bonus is that because it is so basic it works brilliantly on my mobile phone.

Their security is good as it is the same as telephone banking, however they are introducing pin machines which are required for every transaction except viewing your balance.

I use First Direct internet banking plus, I can see all my accounts in every bank I use plus things like Airmiles, hilton points etc. I think it's great.

I tried FD Internet Banking Plus and Egg Money Manager, but found that I preferred Account Unity to either - https://www.ewise.com.au/accunity/aa/home.asp

Card readers hardly inhibit mobility - the Barclays ones, bigger than the generic branded ones used by RBS Group/Nationwide, are still only slightly smaller than my iPhone.

So yes, it's another thing to carry around, but it's not hard to toss one in your bag before you go somewhere.

Alternatively, you can inter-change them if you use multiple banks, as they all work to the same standard, or just request additional ones (i.e. one for your office, one for your laptop bag, etc.)

Maybe so, but I can imagine they will be easy to forget to take with you.

Agreed, they are pain in the ar5e to be honest, there must be a simpler way of preventing fraud than having to carry a mickey mouse looking card reader around.

Oh and what happens if the battery runs flat, did your bank supply spare batteries?...no I thought not. A simple AA or AAA battery, nope a button battery.

What happened to the Cahoot system that generated a new log in each time via a computer programme, if I remember correctly?
  • I've always found the Natwest one to be a right pain, the way it's laid out for logging in is so annoying and it times out incredibly quickly.

I do like the LTSB site. I want to leave due to the service I have recieved from them recently, but in all the time I have used the online banking it has been reliable and until recently hassle free to use.

The only problem I have with the site is a new system they introduced recently. To set up a new payee account you must be at home so that an automated phone call can call back and verify by giving a pin that must be entered to set up the payments.
I needed to pay a bill urgently whilst I was at work and couldnt do it, phoned LTSB and was bounced between depratments for 15 mins, no one knowing what to do. In the end it was lucky my wife was at home. A lot of hassle.
Judging by the posts on here I may transfer my banking to HSBC, seems to be fairly popular.

NatWest's (and presumably therefore RBS') "Quick Transfer" box has the potential for an expensive !!!!-up if you're not careful.

Just thought i'd add to my previous reply.

Barclays have recently upgraded their online banking system. It was my fav before but now, well put it this way, it's still my favourite.

The payment tracking system is a lovely addition.
  • Sorry to resurrect but thought I'd save creating a new thread. Has anyone found out how to wipe a 'deleted' payee from Halifax online banking, rather than having status: deleted next to it? It makes no sense that you deleted a payee, but all it does is suspends the payee and calls it 'deleted'.
