Costco - Worth Joining? (merged thread)

I like shopping at Costco but disagree that it's worth a fee, in the same way that I woulnd't want to pay a fee for any other low cost retailer that I use like Amazon, play.com etc, etc. It's the principle really.
Additionally, i've found that for day to day shopping our local Tesco, Asda or Aldi is often cheaper.
I think Costco really works well if you're trade.0 -

While all the ususal stuff that we buy in Costco (meat, bog roll, kitchen roll, washing powder etc) is cheaper and better than the supermarkets, you need to consider the famous Costco distraction factor. I can't think of a single time I have been in to Costco and come out without something that I didn't go in for. Whether it is a set of spanners, a new electric toothbrush, some DVDs, a barbeque or a dog bed I always buy something. There is just too much quality low priced stuff in Costco that you definitely do not save money in the long run. Would I cancel my card? Never!

My daughter has one in Mexico, she's always in there buying stuff. Would she be able to use her card when she comes over here?
Forget the question, just looked on their website and the cards can be used worldwide.0 -
Worth the annual fee alone is Costco's guarantee. I bought a Nikon camera 3 years ago for £249 and it broke. Took it back, they give you a full CASH refund of the price you paid 3 years earlier! The equivalent camera now is only around £150 so walked out the store £100 up. My friends have returned tv's, dvd players, microwaves etc and all have been given cash refunds of the price they paid years earlier.:hello:0

Just joined Costco as husband has just started up a business. I'm very impressed. I decided before we went to only buy items we already use.
Now I can't wait until we go back, as we ran out of time and only had a little look around.
My only gripe is a friend promised to take me along for the last 10 years or so, and never did, omitted to tell me I could have joined anyway as I work for the NHS. I think she wanted to save the savings to herself, mean thing. When I think of all the savings I could have made over the past decade ...0
