Costco - Worth Joining? (merged thread)

Hi,

I just wanted to ask anyone if they had had any experience with Costco. I have heard that it is very cheap, my friend said that he could get a PS2 for £200 with 5 games (very close to the time the PS2 was released).

So I was wondering whether it was worth paying the £20 joining fee? i.e. Are there cheap electrical products, cos I need a new TV?

I am thinking of joining the one in Leeds, or Bradford (if there is one).

Only been a couple of times with my brother but the TV's seem to be good value and I think they all come with a 3 year guarentee and most shops only give you 12 months

Not sure if you can just go in and have a look round first before joining to decide if you want to join or not

We paid £30 to join and we renew every year...their meat, chicken fillets etc are fabulous value for money...electricals are great, we recently bought some Creative travel speakers and they were over £10 cheaper than anywhere else!
    Hope this helps.

  • Great bargains, best returns policy ever - well outside warrantee - amazed that they still take stuff back, cash refund, years out of warrantee, no questions!

Only problem is you end up buying stuff just cos its cheap!

You can go for a looksee if you ask at the door.

Definately recommend it, finally took the plunge myself after wondering whether to bother - but friends recommended it so thought would give it a go.
So far can recommend the chicken, mince, cheesecake factory cheesecake (frozen), the apple pie (£4.99 but massive!!), part baked bread, frozen meatballs (big box), the choc and plain crossaints, the muffins are really good, and so much other stuff.......

The food is the best quality I've tasted and don't think would get my mince/chicken from anywhere else now!

Electrical stuff - plenty to choose from and the service is great.....

  • Plus their lamb steaks are superb. Excellent customer service, as above, if you have any complaints, even out of warranty, just take the item back for a refund. No quibbles, don't even ask for a receipt, as they can see what you have purchased via your membership card. Also you are not stuck to the value of your guarantee card if paying by cheque. Been a member for years, and would not be without it.

Also, BTW, excellent value on tyres.

Absolutely yes, worth joining, so long as you've got a large garage to store the bulk buys you'll end up getting.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...
  • I 'hate' Costco. They are so good I can't keep away end up spending a fortune there. I've got one on my doorstep and go there 2 to 3 times a week. Went for a wee wander last Sunday and spent £80! Quality of goods is excellent and returns policy is second to none. It's the best shop by far.

Will be paying my annual subscription this year for 7th year running.

Defo recommend. Great value on most items. I've got massive cat scratching pole complex that with vat is £39. On the company's website it is £89. Saving £50 on one item. If you get the vouchers wiht money off deals its even better value for money. I've been a member for 8 years. You can go crazy in there and even better you cant use your creidt cards, its cash or debit cards only!
