Costco - Worth Joining? (merged thread)

Hi Chrome,
I have a card and I think it's well worth it. Got loads of Christmas gifts there - even bought a Dualit toaster as a wedding present for about £60, when they are about £130 in the shops (4 slice plus 2 sandwich cages) They do good deals on cases of wine, all the food is VAT free and not necessarily packed in huge quantities. the meat is very good value. Electrical items are usually worth looking at there. I've certainly saved more than the membership fee. The only thing is, you can never guarantee what you will find there - the stock changes according to availability.
Why not find out if someone else in the company has a card and get them to take you in with them as their guest? Then you would get a better idea of whether you want your own card.I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking!

It's absolutley worth the fee!! :T
At worst, if you don't like it and feel it isn't worth the money, you can claim the fees back. Costco state that if you're not happy with your membership you can cancel and get your fees back even if it's nearly at the end of the year's membership. You can't lose really.
If you know anyone who's a member you may be able to get an additional card on their membership (assuming they agree!) and this is cheaper than taking out you own membership. If you can get a trade card you can also go on weekday mornings and get free coffee and cake

If you go in and ask the (usually quite militant!) staff on the doors, they can let have a look around once so you can decide for yourself.
It's well worth it in my opinion, even if you don't always save a huge amount (although you usually do!), i can get higher quality goods (food/clothes) at the price i'm used to paying elsewhere so that makes me happy!:happyhear0 -
I go about once a month, really good deals around christmas for kids toys etc, loads of food samples as well, every time we go i try everything! Nice clothes and jeans they really sell loads of diffrent products. Well worth it i reckon. In the peak summer they do the most amazing giant strawberrys!! Only arrive in stock once a year, so keep an eye out for them.People who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones...
It is much easier to see other people's failings than our own.0 -
I have a card and a friend is signed up to it via mine. We then split the cost equally each year at renewal. Otherwise why should I pay £25+ and she £15 or whatever?? Works out to £18 each roundabout.
I use it a lot from September onwards for Christmas items. Monday I bought a Tefal iron for £41.11 inc VAT and in the shops it is over £60. Their meat i.e. mince and chicken breasts are very good value as are the whole sides of salmon.
So all in all I would say it is worth it.
By the way if you get membership and add on friends you don't know what they have bought and vice versa so you don't have to worry about that side of it. Also unlike Makro you cannot use a credit card...........cash or debit card only, unfortunately. HTH0 -
Definitely - in my view.
The meat/fish is absolutely top quality (not necessarily cheap), there are some very good bargains, and not forgetting the guarantee is excellent. I took a bag back after over a year and was refunded - no question.

I wanted a steam generator iron and Costco did the one I wanted for £117, it was £200 in Argos, so even if I don't buy anything else it is well worth it as far as I am concerned.0

Can you use a costco card in any store or just the one you joined up at?
The reason I ask is my sister lives in Liverpool and joined up there, but I live in the north east and would like to go to the costco here when she comes up to visit (stock up on washing powder etc) would she be able to use her card at one of the stores up here?0 -
