Help! Npower Want To Double My Dd

I Pay Npower, £57 For My Electric A Month, They Have Just Written To Say That After Monitoring My Usage They Will Be Taking £103 A Month By Dd.

I Stopped My Dd, After Speaking To Cs Who Said That It Was Correct. How Can I Be Spending £103 On Electricity In A 4 Bed House, I Was With Another Company And Merrily Paid Them £57 A Month For The 2 Years That I Lived Here.

Then A Man Knocks On The Door From Npower Offering A Cheaper Deal And So I Switched To Them. After 6 Months They Now Want To Double My Bill.

This Seems Crazy. I Am Switching, But Who To, I Will Move My Gas Aswell From Npower, But I Will Do Dual Fuel Or Seperate Whichever Is The Best Deal.

Any Tips. Or Recommendations. Thanks

    Have you got a debt on your account at the end of the year for which the original DD was set up. If you have the supplier is fully entitled to adjust the payments for the next year to both recover the debt and to make provision for estimated future usage based on experience. Is the reading on which the review is based an actual or an estimated one? If it is not then supply the co with a true reading. Work out the cost of your consumption at latest , or, if an increase is in the pipe line, the future rates. Add the future costs to the debt. Divide by 12 and see if it comes near to the supplier’s figures.

    As to consumption being high, who can tell? Everyone has different patterns of usage.
    Four bed houses can be large or small, well or badly insulated.

    BTW I once had an estimate of consumption based on usage for fifteen months that included two winter quarters. Make sure they’ve only put twelve motns usage in to the abacus.

  • Weird about the lettering, I dont remember doing it! That would take far to long .............

    As for the electric problem - this was estimated and so i called and gave a correct reading they adjusted the figure to £93 a month. I am not in debt with them and have no figure to roll over included into this amount.

    Its a straight £93 a month for electric.

    But prices have increased considerably in the past 6 months - and you do seem a bit oblivious of what you are using? The first response you have got is appropriate - so I won't attempt to add to it.

    However - do read this thread before you jump to a new supplier. As it's odds on that the increase significantly relates to arrears - which you will have to pay first !

    No help to you, but I would steer WELL clear of Npower! They ripped me off my £700 after altering my meter reading by a digit................they then wouldn't acknowledged what they had done and passed me off to a debt collection agency icon8.gif It took 3 years to straighten out and eventually the debt collection agency could see that it was a huge mistake on their clients behalf! :rolleyes:

    hi all- their customer service team is a shambles! most of them appear to have little or no knowledge of their product ! talking about electric meters-our was changed at start of last november and new digital one put in at zero. i phoned them a couple of weeks to ago to say i was leaving them and just wanted to bring leccy bill up to date and they still hadn't done anything about chasing up old meter reading before. i then managed to aquire old meter reading myself and phoned them to tell them so! anyway energywatch were interested and are dealing with!

    Yeah Energywatch helped sort mine eventually. Their salesman also lied to me to get me to change over to them..................they've got a lot of dodginess about them!

    NPower are asking their customers to make up any shortfall on their budget plans before the end of the plan year. So if you are 8 months into it, and have (say) £100 outstanding, they will ask you to increase your monthly payment by £25 so that it's all sorted by the end of the year.

    The flaw in this is that they will then keep collecting the extra £25 per month for the next plan year - meaning you'll be over-paying by a fair amount.

    It doesn't mean it's wrong for them to ask for the £25 increase, for the 4 months, but you should then calculate your own expected spend for the following year (i.e. the last year's consumption, at the new rates) and ask them to reduce your DD to the right amount once again.

    The problem as I see it is that any unscrupulous salesperson from any supplier can knock on your door and say "I can reduce your Direct Debit from say, £50 to £35". Sounds good so you sign up. However, this doesn't mean that you will end up paying less for your energy! Invariably it means that you fall behind with your payments, because all that has happened is that you are now paying £35 a month for £50 worth of energy. Sooner or later your "new cheaper supplier" asks for the shortfall and up goes your Direct Debit :mad:

    The only way to be sure you're saving money is to ask to see a comparison of Tariffs, which only the most competitve suppliers would be happy to do.
