Can I switch back and keep old a/c?

Until about 6 weeks ago, I was with Powergen .

I used Uswitch and found Scottish Power could save me about £10 a month, and along with a £22 cashback through Greasy Palm, I decided to switch to Scottish Power.

I always pay monthly DD and have paid my first payment of £38 to Scottish Power.

However, Powergen have sent me the final reading bill for my gas and electric up to the date of the switch - £159!!

I'm now thinking I've made a mistake. My DD with Powergen started at £40 (dual fuel) and crept to £50 by the time I switched, so I'm guessing the Scottish Power DD may well do over the next year or so.

So, my question is - is it as easy to switch back to Powergen? If I phone them and say I think I made a mistake, very sorry, can I come back, do you think they will just re-activate the a/c and re-incorporate the £159? It wasn't arrears , just a final meter reading. Or will they say, yes you can come back, but you have to have a new a/c number etc so pay up first for the period until you switched???

I can't see anything anywhere that says I have to stay with Scottish Power for any set amount of time, but if anyone knows different, then I'd be grateful to know.

I'm obviously keen to avoid paying the bill if it's easy enough to swap back and just up the DD I was paying with them.

If I'd have known the final meter reading would be that much i'd have stuck with them and maybe switched in the summer when my a/c is more likely to be in credit!

I switched but to PG just as the price shot up and my supplier is taking me back with the same account but using a more beneficial tarriff, If the cooling off period is past you will have to stay a month with the new supplier, So phone PG now.

Not too sure that email is the best contact. From various experiences, they're too often put to one side. One I sent to PG to clarify a matter never gpt a reply. IMO to phone is better

    sorted :)

someone from powergen called me this morning - happy to take me back as a customer and will transfer the final reading amount onto a new account.

Didn't say what the amount would be each month, but at least it will mean I don't have to find £159 this month!

Powergen are not nice people...am in the process of moving, and when they phoned, three weeks later than they should have (to retain my business), they said the new provider has gone bust.
They did say, however, if this was confirmed, they would take me back. (sic)
Can't believe Powergen train their people so.
