Great Cut The Cost Of Moving Home Hunt

I hired a van for the day... cost me £40. I got a couple of mates to help out.
Much cheaper than paying someone to turn up late and smash my stuff up...
I've moved a lot of times in my life and while having friends and family around to help is cheaper using recommended professional removers is easier, less stressful and quicker.
Recommended professional removers know how to take a fridge down flights of stairs as they have done it loads of times before. Recommended professional removers know how to pack things in the van so it all fits in.
Also to get the best out of your removers be honest with them about traffic problems and parking. If you live in an area or are moving to an area with traffic/parking problems tell them before hand.
One thing you should do when boxing things up is to:
1. put a label on each box that identifying the contents
2. put coloured stickers on to identify the room the contents go i.e. kitchen red stickers, living room green stickers
Doing this:
a. Makes it easier to direct the removers to put the right boxes in the right location
b. Makes unpacking easier for youI'm not cynical I'm realistic

One thing that's always worth pointing out is the additional cost of running the property once you have moved. I am constantly amazed by the number of people who think that moving to a bigger property will just involve a bigger mortgage - when budgeting for a move, they don't even look at the basics like changes to council tax or utilities bills. The cumulative effect of these changes can be bigger than the change to your mortgage. If anybody is interested, I have listed all of the main pointers here:

We recently moved house 6 weeks ago and managed to a get deal on a roll of bubble wrap at Amazon - we used half of this.
I decided to use a local remover guy and they managed to pack up our 2 bed semi in no time - but we encountered problems on the day and he had contacts if needed for storage - luckily it did not come to that but glad that I had a removal company and we managed to unpack main beds and set up daughter's room before she was collected from nursery.
I found that a local homebase store has a caged box where they pu all their empty boxes and there is a sign to help yourself which was good as well as going to the local supermarket to get boxes which they had flattened - saves money.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46
