  • I know of a website that has just been set up for selling your house yourself so you can save on Estate Agents fees. You pay a small monthly fee to advertise your house on their website, you can include photos etc and you can save £thousands in Estate Agents fees.

The website is http://www.thinkaboutmoving.co.uk/?vc=WEB2204, it is in its early days and obviously there aren't many houses advertised yet, it's worthwhile keeping an eye on it in the future as a way of saving money. They are offering the first month free so you have nothing to loose, all you have to do is place your advert using code WEB2204 before 6 May to take advantage of this offer.

When I was young my father sold our house without going through an Estate Agent, all they basically do is advertise it for you, so if you can do this yourself you will save money.
  • Try https://www.eureka247.com and houseladder.co.uk for agent free selling!

we are in the process of moving - and all its costing us is a couple of crates of lager and some bar-b-que food!

All our boxes/packing materials are from iceland/aldi/somerfield

borrowing a mates van - and the mate - and the local football team

once everthings transported we're throwing a bar-b-que for them to say thanks!

total cost - £50-£60 all in!!

  • Use a recommended on-line firm for conveyancing or a conveyancing company rather than a solicitor (again ensure you get a recommendation). we are using conveyancing-warehouse.co.uk as recommended by dfarry on this board. Our sale is not complete yet but so far I have nothing but praise for the quick efficient service provided. They are moving everything along faster thyan anyone else in the chain and were cheaper by £700 than other quotes.
  • I'm considering selling through the little house company (as mentioned by secretdancer) - charges £89 or £135 depending on coverage you need (plus £40 for a personalised board). However, I'm just concerned about the safety aspects as a single female (can't expect hunky male friends to be on hand for every viewing, assuming I get any viewings). Any tips?

    I am using housenetwork.com and conveyancing-warehouse.co.uk

They will work out really cheaply and are much more professional than I expected for the price.:j

Always sign up for new utilities etc through cashback sites such as freefivers and quidco (i find quidco to be best). Every little helps and when we moved into our new house in June, we made about £200 through cashback offers on signing up to our gas/electric/insurance suppliers (among others).

    :)

Gained £s = Quidco £261.90, Free Fivers £22.26, Matched Betting

  • If you need bubble wrap for self packing try svp.co.uk. They do 100m of 30cm bubble wrap for 5.49, much cheaper than all the companies selling just packing supplies. Thats a lot of bubble wrap for a fiver
