Infrequent use mobile

Can anyone recomend a PAYG service that doesn't need topping up regularly please?

I hardly ever use my mobile, really I only have it for emergencies when driving. My SIM has been cut off. I probably only use it a few times a year - a text message or call "are you here yet I can't see you" or "can you pick me up from the station"... So I really don't want one that says I have to put money on it every month or even every six months, and preferably I don't have to use it at least every six months although that is not so important (I don't mind a bit of fun for 10p, but I object to putting £10 where I don't need it).

I don't think of myself as a technophobe, but does anyone do a deal for them as I seem to behave like one with my mobile.

Thanks
J

I think most of it is the same - you need to make a chargable call every 90 days to keep your sim active.

Perhaps just ring the speaking click for 30 seconds once a month or so?

Virgin pay-as-you-go. I have had this for about 6 years. I use about £10 per year maximum.
I had to replace my old phone this year and got a very good one for around £25 from the Virgin Shop.(You can get them even cheaper) They put my old sim card into the new phone so that I could keep my number and gave me lots of free texts. I do like Virgin for service.

Orange don't require a regular top up and you can always use it for Orange Wednesday, 2 for 1 at Odeon cinemas.

check out 3's new sim plan, sim zero. You simply pay for what you use, no need to top up or keep the sim active and no monthly charge for having the line

    20p per min for calls
    10p per text

you simply pay by direct debit for any usage and even get free skype to skype calls, voicemail and msn messenger. You just need a 3G phone to put one in and if you don have one you can buy one from a 3store for £39.99

Husband had the same problem and his sim was cut off. I phoned t-mobile who told us about the 90 day thing. T-mobile credited him his money back onto a new sim, so now he just needs to use it once in 90 days to keep it active.
There's no place like home :)

Its not 90 days all suppliers will give you about 6 months grace some EG Virgin will do nothing about non use for yonks.

Tesco new payg Lite Tariiff is ideal for low speech and text users.

You can't beat Tesco Mobile really.
Their new Tesco PAYG Lite rate is 8p a minute calls & 4p a text.

From their website, which is relating to their ordinary PAYG (not Lite) but I believe is the same for the Lite...

'For UK calls and texts, picture messaging and internet browsing, your free credit gets used up before the top-up you paid for, which never expires.'

You can also bar unsolicited premium rate texts (£1.50 a time) from being sent to your phone. Only other Network Operator I know will do this is T Mobile.

I'm a very light user of my mobile. £10 top-up on Tesco Lite will last me a couple of years.
    I was on T Mobile @ 20p a minute and £10 lasted me over a year.

Orange do not cut you off. I've had a PAYG sim in a phone I'd forgotten I even had up until a few weeks ago. It'd been in storage for at least 2 years. Charged it up, turned it on, still 40p on it :)

They turned one of my PAYG Sim Cards off for infrequent usage, I had £9 on it.
