I'm reading negative vibes about diesels and the £35 car tax.
I do around 200 miles a week, I used to own a 1.4 mk2 Astra petrol, cost me £25 a week petrol and I think £120 road tax a year.
Changed to a 1.4 diesel 52 plate Fiesta, £30 diesel last 2 weeks and I only have to find £35 a year for the car tax.
The Astra was very rusty and had to be replaced, so the Fiesta diesel is definately a money saver.
i would hope we had made some kind of improvements to vehicles over that kind of age range. a mk2 astra compared to a 52 plate fiesta. the mk2 astra would be at least an "H" plate which was 1990 your fiesta is 2002....work permit granted!0 -

I agree, but show me a petrol car of today that can do 400 miles on £30 petrol.0 -
I don't really understand what a massive incentive low tax is. Say you save £100 per year. That's just over 2 tanks of fuel over a year.Happy chappy0

All depends what you want from a car really.
I wanted a small to medium sized family car with 5 doors and £35 tax.
I bought a Volkswagon Polo 1.4 diesel last year that ticked all those boxes and its been fab.0 -

Agreed, hardly worth the bother.0 -

apparently this one does, it according to the manufacturer (who we all know over estimate thier fuel economy ) its a small petrol engine car that gives 61 mpg.
but again the whole arguement isnt just about the price of fuel or low VED. turbo failure on your diesel could quickly wipe out any savings youve made on fuel. have you had to have any work done on your diesel engine yet? do you know how much it could cost you if the clutch failed on your diesel fiesta compared to its petrol version?...work permit granted!0 -
My wife's Aygo (1.0 petrol engine) averages 58 mpg between top-ups. And she's not what you would consider a 'steady' driver. :eek:Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
