Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 10th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good
Morning OS chums!
Haven't heard from Tris in a while. I think I get up on auto pilot now..
Noahs - hope your head is a bit better today hon and that the meds work for you.
Sistercas - Am loving Torchwood too, it's just fantastic and I cried for about 10 mins last night at the ending... can't wait for tonights final episode.
Fairy - you take care of you and don't do too much. If ever there was a time to take it easy, now is it!
Sunnygirl - Hope your son did well at the interview!
Moggins - Congratulations honey!
Hilstep - congrats on soon becoming a granny!
Bitsy - my baby heads of broccolli are finally showing!!! I am so excited. I examine them every day for slug or butterfly damage which is killing my OH as he has to lift the planters back and forth. :rotfl:
Meanmarie - our
loves cheese, chocolate, custard, and mashed potato to name a few! She DOESN'T like carrots or peas - if we put down left over mince for her she neatly leaves the bits of carrots or peas on the side of her dish.
Had a busy couple of days with dentist visits (all is well thank goodness!) and test driving another car as we have to give back the VW soon.
Been eating lots of lettuce from the garden and have had about another half doz strawberries. Tomatoes are all growing strongly except I mislabelled one and have an upright trying to grow in a hanging basket! My miniture french beans suddenly went from tiny beans to long green beans in a few days but we have picked some and hope they won't be too tough.
Decided the veg patch (as it is now known - last year it was the Dahlia bed but none have come up this year so all my veg planters are on that corner:rotfl:) is way too windy, so put up the 'beach' wind break to shelter the peppers. Might seem odd but it works! My OH also climbed onto the flat roof and hung a wind spinner so that is bright and fun to watch as we live on a very windy corner of the street!
Right I better get the BM going and work out what we are going to eat later. Smoked mackerel in the fridge so maybe fish cakes or just fish and mash and a huge salad.
Warm gentle
to anyone who needs or wants one.

Morning people.
Not been on much lately... Have found that I don't have much to say. But done a little shopping and a few days off and been a few places.
Wednesday went on the Padstow lifeboat for a launch and training evening. Managed to wangle that and it was great. I tried to film some of it, but not easy with poor equipment. Look here if you want to see my launch footage.
Been out in my little boat yesterday and planning again today, if the stupid rain holds off. What acrp weather we are having.
Tesco have rump steak on offer £2.60p lb. NOW is the time to get steak. That is cheaper than we sold it when I was a butcher 23 years ago!
Work tomorrow, but it's raining all day so who cares....
Cheers folks. SteveNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone.
N9eav - please keep posting. I can live vicariously through your posts as so desperately want to live in your part of the world but can't afford to
MSD - your produce sounds like it's coming a treat!
Well was cream crackered yesterday. Had a number of appointments, did grovery shopping for christening and rushed round like a maniac and it all starts again today  Got to make a quiche, some rice crispy cakes (yum!) and loads of other prep I can't remember (but I have a list somewhere)
Gazebo's are up in the garden and according the weather forcast we'll be needing them  I hope they've got it wrong.
Anyway I need to get BM on and then make the crispy cakes so I'll love you and leave you for now.
Have a good day all OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning Peeps
N9eav - I know what you mean about having nothing much to say - i`ve been the same. I`ve been keeping up most days though.
Moggins - Congratulations :j
My back is rather stiff this morning as i woke on the sofa  i was just so tired last night that i fell asleep a soon as i sat down so when i laid down at some point i was rather twisted. I`m in the middle of trying to balance w*rk with a full spring clean and holiday packing as well as normal garden maintainance. The normal housework and cooking is getting in the way though and i only have today to get everything finished before we have family visiting at the weekend.
On the plus side i`m off wo*k now for 12 days and we go away on holiday next week :j i can`t wait to get away and i know that DH and i are both more than ready for a break.
The sun is streaming through the windows and everything looks lovely today, hope the weather holds as i have tons of washing to get dry. The breadmaker is at the baking stage so the smell of fresh bread is wafting through the house and the dw is waiting to be emptied. Off i go into the kitchen for a while and then i can run DH to w*rk as the busses are on strike today. There will be a service by another company but trying to get on one will be almost impossible as they will all be packed to the roof by the time they get to our area.
I`ll pop back later to catch up.
Have a lovely day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all, lovely day again, supposed to rain later though
N9eav, I love your footage, a year or so back, we went to St Davids and had a trip out on a jet boat, it was brilliant, and wer saw loads of wildlife.
Off to work today, not sure whats for tea, it was sausages wedges and sweetcorn, but it may morph into fish and chips on the beach, will see what the weather is doing, dd has a friend sleeping over, who now lives in Dubai, I think she would enjoy it.
DD is off on a school trip today to Fort Nelson not sure how much she will enjoy it , but we will see.
Have good days all xx0 -
Hi all, hope you've all been well (I have been reading, just too rushed to post)
I have about 20 scripts left to mark then I'm done for the year. I'm not sure I want to do it again. That would be a shame as I've been doing it for 8 years or so and I would miss it, but it's just been draining. I took time off work to concentrate on it - which doesn't matter as I never use my holiday anyway. I guess I will think about it - I wouldn't have to decide for months anyway.
Next week is busy - gig in London wednesday, staying over in Greenwich overnight and off to brussels thursday until Tuesday with some friends. I need to bribe someone to feed my cells when I am away.
I am busy at work (as usual) as we have a lot of new people starting. I am shifting offices next week too - up to the 3rd floor.
I couldn't sleep so I got up at 4.30 and made cookies. I tried my cookie press again, but I just don't seem to get on with it so went back to rolling them by hand. I think the mixture is a little too stiff for the cookies press so they don't
stick to the baking sheet. My office smells of lemons
OH and I had a "minor disagreement" yesterday. It's rare for us to row, but I'm at snapping point with his apathy over his divorce. He's conflict shy - so never gets round to dealing with anything and just thinks it will all go away. He thought I "might" consider signing as the co-respondent to avoid him having to go to court to pursue his petition on her unreasonable behaviour. So it wasn't his solicitor being reluctant at all, it was him. Apparently his estranged spouse wishes to chase me now rather than accept a compromise - I'd respond to the court, but I've not had anything from them to respond to, so I can't do anything. The chance of me recieving service via the balliff is very slim, given the hours that I work - I'm hardly at home. All this and yet he's still trying to deal with her stuff so she can stay in the country. To say that I lost it would be an understatement. Hell will freeze over before I agree to that. This has been dragging on for 2.5 years now (they've been split longer) and I wasn't the reason he left in the first place. I'd think of a calm blue ocean, but the way I'm feeling right now, I'd be holding his head under the water.
Moggins - congratulations!
N9eav - your footage is greatI love hearing your stories, even if you think you have nothing to say
Hilstep - congratulations!
Have a good day all, I'm off to get some coffee. It may make me feel more human, but I doubt it :rotfl:cel x

I need to tidy the house again and nip to tesco for some barbeque bits as we have my family over tonight. Birthday celebrations in this house are always done over a few days . I normally avoid big supermakets on Fridays and the weekend so hope it isnt too packed.
Just doing sausages, burgers and some kebabs with salad coleslaw and cheese n bacon pots. Lemon meringue for dessert.
More washing to do today and its lovely and sunny today :j ironing pile is getting a little scary though.

Good morning all:hello:
Not at all sunny here at the moment.
We had a good day out yesterday at Longleat then went to an Italian restaurant in the evening, so not very OS but a lovely day. Have got loads of photos now to sort through.
Torchwood sounds brilliant. I've never watched it before but have downloaded the first two episodes and recorded the rest on Sky so pleeeease don't give too much away! Am really looking forward to watching it over the weekend.
Have been flitting in and out of the threads this week so hope I haven't missed too much, apologies to anyone whose news I've not picked up on and ((((hugs)))) to those in need.
Moggins - congratulations :j
OS today - will meal plan and shop for next week as back at work on Monday, and will start clearing junk from the loft today. Lunch will be a healthy salad with home grown lettuce.
Have a good day everyone

Hi all. Steve the N9eav - I loved the footage of the lifeboat launch. Takes me back to when I had a boyfriend on the lifeboat crew at Weston-super-Mare! My DH's great-grandfather and great-uncle were on the crew of Ramsgate lifeboat many many years ago. The uncle was number ten in the photo of the crew of the Lifeboat Bradford, that helped the Indian Chief when it was wrecked in 1881. Here's an account of it http://www.ramsgatelifeboat.org.uk/indian-chief-rescue.htm
Steve's a fine name, by the way. It just happens to be my DS2's name, so I'm a bit biased!
Well, I have to say that the weather is not up to much today; it's cool and cloudy. We're all just hoping it will be better for Bastille Day on Tuesday - it's the most important day in the French calendar, and yet another bank holiday! The French have 13 bank holidays altogether (but the Government is trying to reduce them). Anyway, we are going to a Fete Populaire in our local commune, so we're looking forward to that.
Dinner tonight is roast chicken legs, pots, carrots and cabbage, with gravy. Pudding - don't know yet.
RedRuby - hope your DD has a great time.
Hope everyone is well and that you all have a good day. I'd better go and do some work.
