You have to get permission from your landlord for a water meter. I'm not sure about changing gas elec suppliers, in my old place my tenancy agreement said I wasn't allowed to change suppliers, so you'll have to check that.

I don't understand why he's so against you being in debt when he's in it himself? Sounds a bit like double standards to me. And you shouldn't prioritise his above yours, you should look at it all as a whole. If you want a mortgage together then both of your credit ratings will count. If he only wants a mortgage on his own then that sounds dodgy to me.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I was being a bit extreme when I said kick him out wasn’t I. Sorry about that but he still needs to take more of an active roll.

I'm in social housing and have switched gas & electricity plenty of times without telling the housing association. They don't need to know. In fact they advise it.

I'm not sure about the water meter though. It might be advisable to check all the same. It would do no harm to call your housing officer first to see.

Oh are you in social housing/ I've changed my electric loads in my council flat, I've got a letter giving me permission for the water meter, it was no problem.

You really need to sort out the situation with your BF. If he doesn't know that you can't make the payments, you aren't giving him the chance to make the responsible decisions like cancelling Sky. He only knows half the story.

Having said that, it in no way excuses his lack of input and responsibility for your joint budget. He is perfectly happy to splash out on fancy tv's, game consoles and laptops. Then he makes you responsible for paying and shouts at you and threatens you with leaving if you can't. He sounds very immature and is treating this part of your relationship as more parent/spoilt child. You deserve better.

I'm sorry if what I have said appears unkind. It is not meant to be. i just feel that until you can tackle this together properly as a couple you will struggle to get to grips with it. Try to talk to him about it calmly and print off your SOA and go through it with him. Ask him to help and let him read the thread if you think it might help

The key word here is couple. You need to try and work this out together as a couple. Talk to him.

He probably won't see it from your point of view to start with but I can guarantee he will eventually.

this seems to be the best quote for contents insurance.

    direct line
    11 instalments of 15.50
    contents insured 50grand
    no volentry access
    no personal persations
    accidental damage
    family legal protection
    2 grand single article limit

at the moment im paying 23.96 just to insure my two tvs ,play station and my laptop

Im just unsure as exactly what it covers eg, do they only replace not repair? if its repairable would they replace still or would i have to pay someone else to fix it

    Morning Jay!
Ok things are going to be tight for a couple of weeks! I have added some suggestions for coping until you get to the green weeks. Food wise, make a list of EVERYTHING you have already and post it with a plea for help on stretching it on the Old-style board. Trust me, that lot have the proverbial loaves and fishes thing down to a fine art!!
