After my then 2yo got completely out of his car seat and was crouhed on the floor behind my drivers seat whilst I drove down a very busy road that had no where to pull over. I drove to my local police station where a policeman told him off. He never did it again.0

I have a tigger one on my seatbeat strap (cos I'm a big kid!) Maybe you could fasten one around the straps to stop them wrigling out and mine has a 3d tigger stitched to it which may keep the little one amused as well:heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

Hi
I had exactly the same problem with my DD2 when she was about 18 months old, However tightly I adjusted the straps, I turned around and she was hanging half out of her seat laughing her head off. I phoned Britax for advice (we have the Eclipse SI too) and was told "Have you tried saying a firm "no?" Hmm I think the girl giving me advice didnt have any children! I just stopped the car every time she did it, used bribery, made one of the other children sit in the back with her (they are teenagers by the way) and restrain her, dolly sitting in her seat nicely, etc etc. She did stop after a few weeks, but not before I was reduced to tears by it, especially as she did it once when I was driving on the motorway!
Not much help I know, but good luck!0 -
My little one used to do that, very annoying and worrying when you are driving down a busy road. Have you tried one of these drawing boards http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3530357/Trail/searchtext%3EDRAWING+BOARDS.htm Took one on holiday and my son was really good in his seat. He still undoes his brothers seat belt though when we are on short journeys :rolleyes:0

My two year old is exactly the same. Has also managed to loosen his car seat belt and pop his round the driver's seat saying "hiya".
Last night I stopped the car and lifted him out and sat him on the pavement. Told him that the man from the homefor boys who don't keep their belts on, will come for him. He was howling [felt guilty].
Needless to say today, there was no problem with seatbelts etc0 -
No help whatsoever but during a tantrum this evening our 3 year old undid his belt and attempted to get out as the car was stopped, yet when the car started moving sat straight back down and into a bigger tantrum screaming "Stop the car, fasten my belt"
Completely pointless but it is possible to teach them, I'll be damned if I remember where or how we managed to instil this maniacal behaviour though.0 -

I used to stop the car and say it won't go if everyone isn't safely strapped in, I know it's hard to reason with a two year old but could you offer a reward if he sits safely in the car all the way to where ever?
Is he old enough for a star chart?
Maybe strap a teddy in next to him and praise teddy being a big boy for sitting nicely....
Hi
Ok, tried the teddy one today - strapped 'Mr Big Ted' into the seat next to him and really went over the top with the praise saying 'isn't Mr Big Ted' a good teddy, sitting nicely in his car seat he is such a good boy' etc. etc. and then whilst I was travelling along I kept asking him to have a look if Mr Big Ted was still in his straps and when he told me 'yes' I would praise Mr Big Ted (Oh the joys of motherhood). Anyway it worked - for now - fingers crossed.
Thank you to everyone for your advice and reassuring me that it wasn't just me who has this problem. It's not so bad when other half is in the car but like some of you have said, when you are on your own and on the motorway or a duel carriageway it is pretty scary when you turn around and they are hanging out waving at you!! After all it is drummed into us all the time about ensuring they are strapped in correctly.
Good luck to the rest of you with the same problem!
