Both boots and tesco direct are having significant savings on some car seats at the moment -both are offering 20% off.

    Thanks to you all !!
As part of my money-saving venture this month, I have now received the new car seat from Kiddicare - through quidco!! I spent £50 odd quid while my budget was £80 so i'm mega pleased with that :T plus i qualified for free deliv too..

it was all abit nerve-wracking as i'm still new to all this, but i'm sure that i'll be well into the swing of things by the time the month's up..

    thanks again everyone..

  • Hi there

I'm looking for a bit of help. We need to buy two car seats for our 10 month old son - he's now big enough to leave his portable baby seat.

We need a car seat for each car so I'm trying to find a cost-effective option. We have £120 to spend (in total) but I'm struggling to find a 'brand' name car seat at around £60.

Obviously it needs to be safe and ideally I'd like to be able to recline the seat to stop the dreaded head roll when he falls asleep.

Can anyone recommend a good quality car seat for around £60?
And if I can source a discontinued model, is that ok - not sure about the safety aspects connected to things like that?

    All comments and suggestions welcomed!!!

    Thanks all.
  • I would suggest going to Halfords, they have car seat specialists there which would help you to choose.

This is a tricky one........... but I do not suggest you buy one seat and try to swap, it just doesn't work (had a friend who tried to do this and just ended up buying another seat).

Halfords can be quite good for deals sometimes. We've just bought DD 4 + car seats from there (one up from yours) reduced to £50 each so ended up buying 2 for £100. They are online and deliver if you don't have one near you.

Other alternative is do you have friends who have a spare? My friend has just had DD's old car seat which is still a good brand (Britax) and of course we know the history off. They do not recommend buying 2nd hand car seats as you do not know if they have been in an accident.

Makro do cheap car seats, unfortunately they are cheap and very nasty. A neighbour bought one and needed help fitting it. I wouldn't have put our daughter in it - it was very flimsy and the securing straps and clips weren't as well built as the ones on the Recaro (expensive, but not the best to use - came free with my new car) and Maxi Cosi seats (brilliant in every way) we have. Nothing wrong with discounted models, most are discounted due to slight redesigns or new fabrics on later models.

Buy one seat now for £90 and find another £30 over the next month. We found there was a transition period when our daughter would fit in either seat. If baby's head is not at the top of the baby seat he can still use it.
  • What about this one?

We have two Britax Eclipse seats (not this one but similar) and they have been excellent.
  • Fisher price one for £55

It doesn't recline though, and I don't think it has been tested by Which?
