Thank you to everyone for your help.
I have gone with the renaissance from Boots, with a code i found on another site I got another 10% off, so the price was 103 quid, i get 1400 or so boots points back 2% credit card moneyback, and 2.5% from rpoints!
Jimble Jnr can travel in comfort, and Mrs Jimble will be pleased when she gets back from work.0 -
Well done Jimble
And another good point is that when they puke all over the seat you can stick the covers in the wash at 40 degrees and they come up lovely. (as I found out last week  )Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
I have the Which? child car seat report from December 2004 , if anybody would like a copy just PM me & I can email it to you0

We bought the maxi cosi one a year ago for our son - at the same time my friend bought a britax one for her daughter of the same age. She has just had to spend another £90 on a booster seat as her daughter has grown out of her existing one, but my son will be in his for at least another year or two -so although the maxi cosi one cost slightly more (around £100 compared to £80) the overall cost is cheaper as ours will last longer.
The nct produces a lot of vouchers for these kind of things - it's also worth going to the practical parenting shows as a lot of the manufacturers have stands there and sell of the seats much cheaper than you can buy in the stores.0 -
I've got a 5 month old whose in the inbetween stage so have been looking at the newborn-4 year old seats which are backward and forward facing. I decided to go for the Britiax First Class.
I did lots of research on it and found that Boots seems to be doing the best offer on this at the moment.
The seat is currently £100 in the sale (from £120). I used a 10% code for Boots which I got from this site (thanks to the person who gave this). I got 400 points for the seat and you get extra 1000 points for spending over a certain amount on baby items, and it was free postage and packing.
I worked it out that the seat cost me £76. This is great when the cheapest I could find was on Kiddicare for £95.
I haven't received it yet but hopefully it will fit ok in my rather small car.0 -
We bought the Britax First Class a few weeks back on the infamous Boots 20% +10% day so including all points gained it came in at £56...bargain.....!:)
happy with it so far, we've ended up not using the insert for newborns as our boy was already over the weight it said(we bought this seat as replacement for a M&P seat that he seemed to be growing out of too quickly but wasn't old enough for a forward facing seat etc.). It is quite a big seat when facing rearwards so it takes a bit of getting used to gettiing him in and out but he looks more comfy and has extra space, when it switches to forward facing it's very easy and once installed seems to be a doddle0 -
Hi
Can anyone recommend a good baby car seat for a 18 month old active boy??0 -
robin - I'd go with some of the other posters here - the Britax Renaissance is excellant (if it fits your car). It's the only seat I have found that doesn't move one inch when fitted correctly, in either of our cars. We bought one when DS1 was about 5 months old (big baby) and he was in it till over 3. DS2 is in it now and approaching 3 - he's even bigger for his age so will be out of it soon. So, I've had 5+ years worth of use out of it, at least and it's in perfect condition - works out at just over £20 per year, for anyone that worried about cost (which I'm not when it comes to child safety in cars) Also, Britax will send you out new clips free if yours get a bit loose after a few years.
I'm now at the stage of looking for stage 2/3 car seats. DS1 has a Concord Lift, cos couldn't get a Britax Kid at the time. It's great, but as I have a people carrier, when he's in 'the boot', it takes a lot of the sight line up. I'm going to get a kid for DS2, when I find the best deal - I already know it will be suitable for my car.0 -
The Renaissance arrived yesterday.
My, its quite a big piece of kit, but very well built, good features and the reclining feature will come in very handy!. It was even easy to fit which was a great bonus. I would recommend to you robin. Using vouchers, Rpoints etc gets it down to a reasonable price too.
Jimble Jnr can now see out of the window as we drive along!0 -
Your right Sarahsaver... any child restraint sold in the UK MUST conform to ECE R44.03 regulations.
They ALL have to comply to a series of design and construction requirements and pass a series of performance tests.
ISOFIX (International Standards Organisation FIX) is a new standard for installing child seats into cars, which is being adopted by vehicle manufacturers.
