I had a Britax Renaissance for my daughter (now 3 and a half). Fab seat, very comfortable, and all the excellent safety features that you would expect from Britax.
The Renaissance does however have a "unique Adjusta-Fit and belt Tensioner" (quote Britax!) .
Can be used with either ordinary seatblet or lap-belt.
Very good carseat, cost around £140 when i bought it.

Id like to recommend this seat too. We had it for our son too, from 9 months til when he turned 3 and a bit. Never had any problems, really easy to fit and very secure.

  • Today I briefly heard that if a child is under 12 years of age and under a certain height, they have to sit in a child seat, whether it be a booster etc etc...

Does anyone know of anymore information as I have searched the net but cant seem to find anything. Apparently this takes effect in about 6 weeks?

Children must be in/on a booster seat until they are 4' 5" or 12 years old whichever is soonest. If there's no booster seat then they must wear the adult seatbelt. https://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk

I'm always amazed at the amount of people who still let their children travel in the car with no seatbelt/car seat, etc... There was something on the news about this new law earlier in the week and parents were having a good old moan that their little darlings would never sit in a booster seat and they'd be bullied at school!!!! Ye gods, would they rather their child was thrown from the car and killed if there was a car accident??? I'm sorry but you just tell them, you either sit in the booster seat, or walk....

    i second that janepig

our little lad...likes putting himself in his seat now....but sometimes it can take an age to get moving as he arches his back...and wont go in...the games we have to play

it really annoys me when i see little children in the back of cars with no seat belts on at all

    can this be reported?

This website gives quite good info about ages, weights, etc and types of car seats that should be used according to the new law:

    http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/index.htm

The law comes into effect on Monday 18th September 2006!

Could mean fixed penalty of £30 or a fine upto £500!

We got a card from School just before the holidays which says

Child 3 - 11 and under 1.35meters, 4ft 5in in height must use correct child restraint in the front seat and back seat (which I've read to be a booster seat or similar). It doesn't say they can use an adult seatbelt until they are bigger that 1.35metres.

Also the Road Safety Minister says "Most people make sure that children use some kind of restraint when travelling on the road, but it is vitally important to use the right one; and not to use an adult belt before the child is big enough."

I think this means we all need to have spare booster seats when we pick up kids friends?

My 9 year old is 133 cm, so he's desperate to grow 2cm before September so I don't have to buy him a booster seat :D

He came out of that about a year ago as he said he felt more comfortable sitting on the seat with an adult belt on. I was happy for him to do this.

My 7 year old still uses a booster seat though.
Here I go again on my own....

I have 2 children at the mo with another on the way can i fit a baby seat in the middle of the back seat using the lap strap.

Is there anywhere that i can have the lap strap changed to a 3 point belt?
