We purchased a Britax Reniessence (sp?) for our daughter, Cant recommed it highly enough. We bought in Mothercare's sale (a few years ago) for £119 reduced from £135! Seat reclines for sleeping baby, well padded, and no problems fitting in our car (ford galaxy). I was very happy with this seat :)

I had the Duo Isofix for my daughter, it has great crash test results & was a dream to use-the only downside for us was my daughter had outgrown it by just over 2 years of age (she is very tall but I still expected her to be using it by the age of 3).

We now have the Jane Indy plus (again with isofix), it does up to age 11 if I remember correctly (although knowing my daughter she'll outgrow it at 6, LOL!). This seat is suitable from 9 months but I personally wouldn't haver used it that young as you use the car's seat belt rather than a 5 point harness. The crash test results for this seat are also very good.
  • I had a crash the other week, someone careered across the road into me head on. I can honestly say my car seat (Isofix DUO by Britax) prevented my son from getting injured. It didn't budge and apart from a few tears through the shock of it all, he is well (if only that could be said for my injuries!)

So whatever you do don't scrimp on the cost of the seat.

If you can do Isofix, go for it as it is bolted to the car. I would also say if it is your main car seat to go for the up to 4 years, as they are more designed for your baby now.

If looking for a good deal look at Kiddicare.co.uk

Also if in a crash ensure you replace it.

    .
Wow! My lad is 28 months, over a metre tall, and nearly 3 stone. The duo isofix still fits him although I had trouble finding a buggy big enough for him and I can't get a potty big enough.

It probably depends on whether or not the child's size is in their legs or back etc. And the duo is slightly bigger than the other britax seat we had which no longer fits him.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Thank you all for the helpful advice - i'll find out whether there is a Child Car Seat Centre in our area - although when i rang my Council a few months ago to find out about car seat safety checks i didn't get very far with them at all!!

just a thought... If your local Council don't run this initiative, maybe try neighbouring Councils.

Also, a few people on this thread quoted Brittax - a very expensive make compared to Mothercare. All car seats are manufactured to the same car safety standards, so don't fall in to this 'branded' trap.

    Best of luck. ;)

i cant remember if i read it in a paper or saw it on the news but a car seat safety person (anonomously) went round to all the suppliers who put in carseats and got them to install one into their car. it turned out the only company that did all the correct checks were mothercare!
even halfords forgot some safety points which apparently coz of been potentially dangerous in a car accident.

i have to admit though the carseat that my daughter is in, i fitted myself
this parently lark aint easy is it! lol

we have a maxi cosi priori which is fab cos u can recline while they are in it so u can do when they r asleep - in my kia pride i can stop the car & do it without getting out which is also good if it is raining! it did really well in tests when we got it 3 years ago but there might be better ones now. we got it from kiddies kingdom in dewsbury which is cheap cos they get last year's colours from the manufacturer so is same seat but different colour to mothercare etc & £25 or so cheaper! might be a local business near you that does similar.

I have just bought the Britax hi-liner to use when my son goes up to that size in a wee while. I got mine from Boots as it was reduced to £49.00. It also has a very good write up in various publications and is easy to use.
