thats the worst thing - although wages are similar to down south (expecting London), the cost of living is so much cheaper oop north, that your £ goes so much further

Don't get me wrong I couldn't be a CM... I love my baby girl but lord help me if I ended up with someone elses child that turned out to be a spoiled brat... :eek:I have no patience with them in Tesco's let alone in my home... I'd probably get slammed up for throttling a la Homer Simpson Style

I think I keep getting you muddled up with somebody else
No it's not a job I could do either - as you say I love my own children but I wouldn't want to look after other peoples for a living.
I would probably end up the subject of one of those 'my childminder has breached their contract' threads!0 -

.
If you go as far north as me (leave the mainland lol) then although some things are cheaper, the cost of living is higher (eg diesel is £115.8p/l here and we only have a few smaller supermarkets to chose from etc).
I think childcare, like so many other things, varies from area to area.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I am wondering if you live near my sister - she lives in a place called Moffat in Dumfries and she finds it quite pricey due to expensive fuel/lack of shopping choices
She spends a lot of time on here getting bargains to make up for it though

We have just booked a holiday in Dumfries and Galloway though- going via Glasgow so we will take our own supplies with us
.... or will we because I like to support local traders too ?

'oop north', usually refers to England, so that would rule out scotland and the islands - I know prices would be alot more there, due to the transportation costs factored in - although i would assume local produce, would still be cheaper than we pay for comparable items down south
Going OT - Im thinking we need to start a thread on my main 'oop north / darn saff' comparrison - Fish and Chips - my local takeaway now charges over £5 for a medium cod and chips (they call it medium, its what i would call small), and the chips are measly portions - think we all need to post pics and costings, to see where abouts the north/south divide starts

I'd rather not rule out Scotland and the islands if it is all the same with you . As for local items, I imagine they will always be cheaper if you buy them in the area where they are produced.'oop north', usually refers to England, so that would rule out scotland and the islands - I know prices would be alot more there, due to the transportation costs factored in - although i would assume local produce, would still be cheaper than we pay for comparable items down south

Regarding the fish n' chips, I paid £4.70 for a small-medium piece of haddock and a decent sized portion of chips here today.
It might be interesting to start a thread (perhaps in DT) where we list the cost of say 5 things (e.g. 1L milk, 1L diesel, days childcare for a 2 year old, fish n chips etc). It is quite hard to compare though, as there are so many variables other than north/south (england)......Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

thanks guys...
been doing the Diploma in Home Based Childcare, unit 1... also done some EYFS training (awful and scary) plus firstaid and safeguarding children... think its about 60hours training so far...
the prices do range massively... i certainly couldnt afford to live if i only charged £25 a day - esp as my own baby will take up a whole-day space, at the most i can have 2 kids between 1yr and 5yrs and then 2 more between 5-8yrs... plus some older after schoolers...
the holiday thing is interesting - charge or not to charge... i suppose it needs to be balanced out....:male:Alfie Sidney born 29th August 2009:male:0 -

 It's lovely there (my father was born in Dumfries)
BTW - I live on the South East of England along the coast (property is pricey) but the local fish and chip shop here charges under a fiver as they are fresh from the local fisherman each day so I guess your right about local produce being cheaper.
Anyhow apols Fitzalan for taking your thread off at a tangent
