Flickering Ember - Please do read it. It is very disturbing. Here is another story you might find interesting - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...-criminal.html In a nutshell, mother leaves kids playing in a park (eldest child 9), whilst visiting a local shop. Plod spots them, speaks to mother, no further action taken (and none needed in my opinion) but incident is logged on PNC and turns up on enhanced CRB!
There is another authority in town regarding working with children and vulnerable adults. The Independent Safeguarding Authority (another quango) which is working with CRB the upshot is that millions of workers and volunteers will have to be ISA registered including parents giving accommodation to foreign exchange students, school governors, voluntary helpers in reading, dinner ladies caretakers et.al. It is being brought in to address the Soham and other abuses in care. the url for all the info is:
http://www.isa-gov.org.uk/Default.aspx?page=0
Check it out, there will be many caught out here, and criminal sanctions apply, for unregistered personnel working in "Regulated or Controlled" activity, see the ISA website. This links up with and expands on junkmayle's posting, as heresay evidence can be a reason to bar if given by police or social services.0 -
OK Shel, Ive had a look at the links you provided and without trying to diminish thier experiences, these are from up to 60 years ago. Why not look at these cases from only a few years ago.

I think the case of Ahmed in the first link is very sad and extremely petty on the part of Imperial college. I believe that he was finally accepted in another medical school but cant find out for certain.
Lets just say that he wasnt though. Just imagine that this young man, studied hard and turned his life around, realised that his past would be forever held against him. Then, the local Islamic extremist befriended him, saying all the right words to appeal to his disillusioned state. A year or so down the line, a bitter and twisted Ahmed walks into a packed McDonalds where you and your kids Shel (and Woody01) are having a meal and detonates a large bomb. You survive but your kids dont. Would you still believe in the 'punish them forever' system that we have now?
I must admit, Shel and Woody01, I used to think much the same as you two. If you have a conviction and things are tough, so what, you did the crime. But having sat down and give it serious thought, I realised that it was very short sighted and did society no good at all. This was before my dalliance with the law but now, it makes even more sense.0
