I just hope every little helps with mine! I have one of the highest mortgages that I have seen on here. It was based on my ex's salary and mine but now it's just me.0

We've got a mortgage of £192k but with some serious shifting are hoping to reduce it to £184k and take monthly payments from £1028 to £365 in the next month or so with a new deal. This will mean we can OP like mad and hopefully be MF in 10 years (by the time I'm 40).
Good luck in your journey0 -

thanks all!
have been talking with the boss! and she reckons we shouldnt stretch ourselves too far and save more for unforseen circumstances.
I know i have explained that in 5 years if we move hopefully property will be worth more make some money pay less on new mortgage or have none etc etc.
But will still take some convincing, in the mean time I agreed we are saving 750 a month, we have a new garage to pay off £2k so get rid of that and review the savings, mortgage, etc again.
i havent told her our new mortgage is 940 a month and she still thinks we have to pay 1200 so at least that cuts it down a wee bit.:TAugust 2009: £176,000 Outstanding: £176,000Savings (backup plan just in case) £13,000Overpaid @ July '09 : £00 -
oh yeah we also had the discussion about parents property crop up.
something I havent read on here before.... if and when they pass away the inheritance should help us out a lot!
don't like that idea as its blood money

That's hardly a guaranteed is it? What if said parents need care, and it is not cheap? What if they want to sell up and spend it all? What if they leave it to a charity? Personally I wouldn't be relying on an inheritance to pay off my mortgage. If we do get one then we would like to treat ourselves with it, not pay a debt off.
Agree with your OH that you shouldn't stretch yourselves but it is about getting a balance. The way I see it, we have some things and we go without others. In three years time, we can all those things that we have done without, that's if we still want them and of course we can have lots of things that we hadn't considered as we won't be paying out 50% of our income to the bank
Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060 -
ours was 175k at the start, now is down to 155k....we are on 1 modest income with household of 6 so its definitely a big outlay!
