Mark-W wrote:Well im confused now, i called and confirmed what tariff i was on:
Elec: first 225@ 13.880p, then 8.480p
Gas: first 1143@ 3.006p, then 2.390p
no standings charge, post 31st march tariff.
i use 2,750kwh elec, and 13,500kwh gas per year.
What are the gas prices for the tariff you are reccomending to switch to?
Mark - your charges are similar to mine. We are both on the pre-Dec2005 rates and are being charged considerably more than the rates quoted on the comparison websites. These are used to induce new customers to sign up. Hardly fair though. We now manage our account online, pay by direct debit etc and get little inducement to do so.

Geoff/Mike thanksthats made it a lot clearer, and my prices are ex vat too.
well i gave them a call earlier as i noticed that my last bill didnt have any discount
so they said sorry, and they will send a new bill.
i alos noticed that all my other bills only have a discount of around 6.5% instead of the stated 11% you should recieve being onlein and dual fuel.
so they said they would investigate.
can peoeple chaeck their bill's to see what discout they are getting?0 -
Like you Mark, they left discount off my bill. Like you also, when I phoned I received an apology and said I'd get a new bill with discount included. I wonder how many thousand customers have failed to notice this?
What I find suspicious from this thread is just how many of us who have phoned up to try to get switched to the post Dec2005 lower rates. There appears to be as many who are successful as the number who are refused. Doesn't give you much confidence in Powergen; seems like it's pot-luck who you speak to!

i checked my bills and previous bills to find that over an 16 month period that powergen had failed twice to pay my discount and that i have payed £800 approx but only got £51.43 in discounts hardly 11% so i have left them to look into it.0

Well i called again and they insist that the tariff im on is the only energyonline tariff and theres nothing they can change me to.
I said well, its on your website and a few of the comparison sites.
they said they would call me backsee what happens, not to hopeful though.
over the last 2 years ive paid £915 and have had discounts of £60, which is 6.5%.
Nowhere near the 12% they actually state, it should have been £110
Duel Fuel Discount 3%
Monthly DD Discount 9%
So asked for the £50 to be rebated.
nPower is looking tempting.0 -
Anyone that has successfully switched to the cheaper online tariff, which phone number did you use to contact them. I have spoken to them 4 times today on varying phone numbers and have been passed from India to various call centers in the uk and have been promised a call back tomorrow (which I wont hold my breath on).looking on the comparison website I can save %25 on my electricity by switching to British gas click energy and %20 on my gas by going to ebico.by putting me on the cheaper powergen tariff these savings virtually disappear but so far no luck.If they dont do it tomorrow im off.-....-.---.---. ..... .- -.-.

I was in the same situation as you. BG click and ebico would save me about £170 per year but the cheaper powergen tariff would save me about £110.
However reading these forums it seems nobody has a good word to say about either BG click or ebico. So I phoned powergen on 0800 056 3747 and they put me on the cheaper tariff backdating it to january.I have received a credit for about £43 for the last 3 months today.
I quoted them the cheaper prices from the other providers and said I would leave (though I didn't want to) if they didn't put me on the cheaper tariff.A greedy man's bag is never full0 -
urbanfrit, what are the primary/secondary levels you were quoted?0
-
I cant be asked phoning Powergen to ask them to put me on the pre December tariff.. Instead I have signed up with nPower which should save me £140 compared the the tariff I've currently got with Powergen.. That should teach them a lesson; everybody on the same tariff should pay the same price..0

I haven't been quoted any actual figures from powergen but I have asked to be put on the post dec. 2005 tariff which for my area quoting from simplyswitch is:
"Electricity Unit Costs (incl. VAT)
Primary Units 15.0500 pence per kWh
How many at primary rate 800 per annum
Secondary units 6.7400 pence per kWh
Gas Unit Costs (incl. VAT)
Primary Units 3.5700 pence per kWh
How many at primary rate 4572 per annum
Secondary units 2.1450 pence per kWh"
Then there is the 12% discount to be applied.
I can't confirm the rates until I've seen my amended bill but the amount credited to my account for 3 months is in line with the difference between the tariffs.A greedy man's bag is never full0
