Advice Needed On 1st Bra For DD?!

Options
Just after some advice please.

DD is 11 and is quite tall and is starting to develop. She needs to be fitted for her 1st bra and dont know where to take her. People have suggested M&S but have heard some horror stories and dont actually know anyone personally whom has used their bra fitting service.

Obviously, she is quite shy about this and dont want her being man-handled and scared for life by someone demanding her take her top off:eek: IYKWIM.

She is also partially sighted and would prefer it if I go with her, this may be abit of a problem as Im a wheelchair user and not too well ATM. Some shops still dont cater for us wheelie users.

Can anyone recommend any stores or shops to me.

Thanks so much in advance.

My dd had to have a bra fitted to go under her bridesmaid dress last year, I took her to Debenhams and the girl who helped was really nice and made it as un-embarrassing for my dd as possible.

Hugs if you are worried about things phone ahead. Access is a lot better than it used to be, although I sometimes find hidden little steps and problems turning. Larger stores are easier for wheelchair users to get round, but you may need to ask about the changing rooms. I'm lucky as if I need to go shopping I can leave hubby at home but I still find myself going you couldn't get a wheelchair up that ramp or gawd the lifts brokern again.

Marks and Spencers i found good, and as for problems cos you're in a wheelchair they should help in what ever way possible, when you get there explain the situation and they will have to work round you not the other way.Its law now they have to do it.

The Marks and Spencer i went to they couldn't do enough plus they didn't put us under any pressure to buy from them, they measured then said go look see if there is anything you like and if you want me to come and check it fits properly i will.

I even wrote a letter to the store manager saying how good a service i had recieved. If you can't take your daughter do you have a close friend or another family member who could take her?

I have also been very pleased with M&S, and the last time I was there a young girl was queuing with here mum, so they do starters too. They measure you with your top on, then you try the bra on and they will sort out the straps for you and tell you if it fits, and if not go and get ones that do. The bras I got were only £12 each too. I would definitely go there as before this I wore the wrong size bra for years!

I had the same problem with my daughter being shy. However, they measure by putting a tape measure around the chest, over the nipples. Make a note of that measurement. You then put the tape measure under the breasts and make a note of that chest measurement. You then take one number away from the other and the result gives the bra size. The amount of numbers between the top and bottom dictates the cup size. I simply measure my daughter (she is 20 now and still won't let the shop do it even though she works in Debenhams and her friend's mum is a bra fitter in M&S) and go into Marks and Spencer with the figures and they work it out for her. They never say she must go in or that I must buy something, I simply say she is shy and wont let anyone else do it and they have always happily given me the size.

When my daughter started to develop, we just used the crop top type "bras". M&S do a range called "Angel" (I think, something like that), which has proper bras but also slip over crop tops. The range is designed for the young end of the market as obviously a youngster is not going to want to wear the same sort of bra as mum.

Just to add to previous post regarding the crop tops. My daughter who is aged 10 and is well developed for her age has been asking for a training bra. I have brought her several from primart. They are only 2pounds each for a set of top and pants and have several designs from the crop top to more of a "bra" all in soft cotton. They are ideal for a child who has just started developing.
But if ever I stray from the path I follow

Good thinking. We don't have a Primark in our nearest shopping centre so they don't spring to my mind when thinking "shops".

Buying there would be ideal because they don't need to last too long so it is not too much of an outlay for items that will need to be updated fairly regularly in the next few years.

I can recommenf Primark - they have some lovely crop top sets and bra sets for about £2.99 or less!

Phone them first and check that the store you want has a lift and explain you are a wheelchair user. I think most primarks do have a lift but check anyway.

Try to go on a weekday if you can as they get horribly busy and crowded! maybe early morning?

Watch out when buying "sets" without trying them on - many shops will refuse to refund/exchange on underwear, which applies to the pants part of the set!
