If not, can it not be removed from the individual forums and only display on the main forum page? We don't need to read it more than once!
The problem is that, if you page down a forum and click on a thread that is, say, halfway down, then when you've read it you press the 'back arrow' to return to where you were.
Previously, it would return you to the same position on the page.
Now, it returns you to the top of the page until the first news item has printed (up to five seconds). Only then does it return you to the point you were at.
That doesn't happen on any other site that I can see. This is in IE8, in case that makes any difference.0 -
Hi folks,
We're investigating the effects of the News Ticker currently and we're not seeing any of the delays that youre reporting Biggles and the slowness you're experiencing is not a commonly reported issue.
You've noted that you're using IE8, is there anything else you can tell us about your setup? Processor, RAM, Operating System, graphics card etc. might help.
Also, have you got any other browsers loaded such as Firefox or Chrome? Have you tried browsing the Forum with those to see if there's any difference?
Thanks for the feedback and to the OP, are you looking for an option to switch the News Ticker off completely or just in certain pages? Are you having performance issues or is it purely a personal preference?

Hi guys
Just to say the News Ticker is an integral part of the forum now and can't be switched off. Its the first step in our iterative redesign to bring the main site and forum closer together. Don't worry most of it will mean more forum space and a cleaner look.
Of course if the ticker has caused any problems we will fix those, but its here to stay (but will be just in the board and forum nav pages not in threads itself)

Erm,where is the news ticker as I've not even noticed it? I rarely look at MSE itself, other than on newsletter day...0

Its a personal preference as i get fed up reading things over and over again.
I have also experienced similar to biggles in that when you click the back button it takes you to top of page until the ticker has printed and then back to where you originated from. Noticed in peak periods.Thoughts:

Mind you, I'd still rather not keep reading the same news every time I change boards.0 -
Works okay for me, although in my personal opinion a number of recent headlines have been incredibly misleading and sensationalist, which lessens the impact when there is actually an important/urgent news article/warning.LegalBeagles0
