Really it would of been better if say Vodafone got it cause O2 already got the Iphone.

I wonder through if that is a signal that O2 is now going to focus more on smart phones / web focus mobile phones.

I love my trusty Treo 680, but I can't wait for the Pre. Rumours that it's out in Germany in October, so UK may be the same...

Yeah they are crap but not as bad as i thought they were going to be! I'm on the £35 (ish) a month Iphone contract at the mo but had to pay £100 for the phone, so having the Pre free is good, means I can sell my old Iphone to put towards some of the monthly bills!

It's free on a 45 quid a month 18 month contract- anything below that you'll have to sign up for 24 months from what I gather to get a free Pre.

Tariffs I'm looking at are these, which ignore the £70+ tariff.
    18 @ 29.38 + 96.89 = 625.73 75min 125txt
    18 @ 34.26 + 96.89 = 713.57 600min 500txt
    18 @ 44.05 = 792.90 1200min 500txt
    24 @ 34.26 = 822.24 600min 500txt

So I think the best for me will be the 18 month £34.26 as the £29.38 doesn't include enough texts.
Quidco is doing £35 cashback for o2 and phones 4u on a contract, but they're doing £40 for Carphone Warehouse. Only o2 have announced their prices, but if the others are the same then Carphone would be the best to order from for most people. They charge £10 delivery to NI though, so I'll be ordering direct from o2 I think. Keep your eyes peeled for bargains and post them here!
Tariffs are the same as the (old) iPhone 3g 8gb so as expected really. If tried the Pre at the same price as the 3G(S) I think they would struggle.

Do you think it's better than the iPhone? I'm not convinced.

Real keyboard, multitasking, unrestricted bluetooth, doesn't need to sync (does it automatically over the air), can drag and drop files onto it to use, faster than the 3G, cheaper than the 3GS. All this coming from a MacBook Pro, iPod nano, Palm Treo 680 owner...
