If your going with kids the railway museum is a must free in .york dungens is good a bit pricey .They do ghost walks in the evening which are good fun .The minster and shambles are great but you have to pay in for the minster now .Will keep my thinking cap on.0

York railway museum is free0

The Jorvik Viking centre is excellent - best get there early if you're visiting in the school hols as the queue can be fairly intimidating!

York Dungeons are also great fun and well worth a visit, although not for the faint of heart!

Organised Ghost Walks around the city are a great way to spend the evening - here's a link to one group, but there are absolutely loads operating:

Walk around the City Walls (it's free!) as are the Art Gallery and various museums throughout the city. There are regular open-top bus sight-seeing tours through the city or a cruise down the river - more info can be found at:

A quick google search on any of the above will bring up more websites & contact details if you need further info.
HTH - enjoy your visit!

for places to eat search through local money saving as i posted on there regarind nice places to eat. Fulford has a lot of B&B's, or depending on when you're going try the uni0

York races! Its a lovely course if your there on a race day!0

The uni is a ghost town at the moment - we're in the middle of the Easter break. Saying that, it might be worth going for a nice pub lunch in Heslington whilst it is free of us pesky students.
Everywhere in the city centre can be reached within five minutes walk. The Viking Centre and the Dungeon could be done in an afternoon.
Oh check out 'Betty's Tea Rooms' if you want a traditional English brunch with scones and tea. I don't go there, but have a chuckle at the tourists queing outside every time I go past.
I don't know if the boat cruises are running yet, but they are nice for an hour or so.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it - I've been living here for three years, and no plans to move anytime soon

I spent 4 years there and I love the place. As well as the obvious attractions I like to walk along the river and round the campus. Some great pubs too.0

Railway musuem is good and free, although carparking inst cheap and they charge rip off prices for food/drinks. You can spend best part of a day there, and it isnt far form main city centre. Its on Leeman road, 10 minutes from main centre. The Shambles is free lovely character and busy with tourists.
The Yorkvik is a major dissapointment its such a expense for what you get, I wouldnt go again. I rather go to the dungeons great for bigger kids, scary for youngest though.
York castle musuem is about half a day entertianment well worth a look for kids of all ages, the street in the museum is such a delight.
The minsiter is good look around but is pricy. If you live in the dolice area its free apparently its a large area it covers as far as Middlesborough I think.
All these facilities arent all that far apart there either in the centre and just a walk away. Jorvik and castle are nearby and theres a car park closeby not too pricey.
The park and ride is pretty good. If we spend a day in York we park near Monks Cross and get the bus in, its cheap and reliable.0
