Hypno's approach to life, the universe and debtbusting.....

So, you find a way of doing it so they are involved.....
When I first becamse a DFW and really focused on my debt rather than just drowning in it, I got the children involved. I opened a separate savings account and explained that everything has a price, it is up to each of us to decide whether that price is worth paying...
So, we used to pay a lad from the village £5 to cut the lawns once a week. But if we did them ourselves, then we saved £5....we could buy birthday wrapping paper for £1 from the shop or we could make our own from paper and pen at home.....we could buy a drink from the shop, or wait until we got home, have squash, and save 50p....
Each time we did this, we put the money in the new savings account, and the children soon enjoyed seeing the balance go up, which then paid for the deposit for a ski trip in due course...
They very quickly started to think about the "value" of money, and the alternatives to spending it, and this has stayed with them over the years. It is a case of involving them, not just saying "no" to them.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Right, scratches done for my daily 10p, email fired off to ebay buyer requesting payment for the item sold on Saturday  and banking done - the student cheque that DID arrive last week has cleared, so I can breathe just a little easier knowing that there is a bit of money about, and I will go and collect the missing cheque at lunchtime, although that obviously won't clear until later in the week.
But at least bits of money are coming through....mind you, OH got paid from his second job on Saturday, and I sent it to the other bank account we have, to cover the money borrowed from various pots for the China cheque......and it has not yet arrived  Obviously the faster payments system was having a day off on Saturday, so I assume that it will arrive at its destination tomorrow or Thursday, which is a pain - had I known it was going to take that long, it would have been quicker to draw out cash from one bank, and pay it in to the other bank yesterday  As it is, there is £560 of useful money sloshing about in the banking system
Oh well, saves me spending it, I suppose!
Have a good day everyone xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Hello! I'm off to France in an hour and a half, couldn't quite bear to start running about yet.... at least all the dishes are washed. The £20 challenge.... well, I went out on Saturday to buy food (no proper shops in normal walking distance) and spent £3.20 on a reduced rate bus ticket. Otherwise, my £20 is intact. Just shows what a boring life I have
Hope everyone has a good week - and Hypno, I hope your dosh arrives in the right place really soon.
