thats a very sensible approach to the dentist etc ...another thing i never thought of ...it isnt until something happens that we do think of these things isnt it
These are the things (along with car stuff, generally) that we don't properly budget for, then when they come along, we are stuffed because we don't have enough in the day to day budgets to cover them.
So, I really do intend, by the new year, to have named accounts set up for everything, with standing orders for each, even if it is only £5 a month into them, so that I don't get stung so hard when they crop up. Christmas and birthdays are another one - I tell myself that I buy everything out of the normal shopping budget but I am sure that when Christmas arrives, I will be wondering how on earth I am going to pay for things!
I will be organised one day.......I will, oh yes I will :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

I was incredibly tired when I got back - it was quite unnerving really, because I thought I would come back really energised. Still, I think that is more a case of me being over over tired before I went.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. i am sure you will ...i have an account currently that i put £100 into a month it pays the various insurances and car repairs etc ...maybe i should think about for dentists etc these things do come up and as you say toothache is one of the most painful experiances there are in this world ...i would be better to do a seperate one as well as i tend to use the insurances one whenever we are skint ...its like a do all account lol0

That's what I was doing - I had several accounts open at barclays that I put money into each month, but then they were easily transferred when we were close to payday and needed to "borrow" the money. And of course they never had the "borrowed" money repaid at the same rate, so when the insurance became due, we were back at square one. Also, each account number was just a number - nothing to distinguish it, and most importantly nothing to focus me!
So, I set up loads of accounts at Halifax, where they all have names as well as numbers, so I can have an account called "car maintenance" rather than just 74699374 (or whatever), along with "next year's holiday", "skiing", "dentist/glasses", "get rid of the debt", "home improvements" etc etc and have set up standing orders to each one for appropriate amounts.
That way, I have to think that I am reducing the holiday fund, or reducing the house fund rather than just moving money around, so I am more likely to be motivated to find another way round the problem!
That's the idea, anyway - I am still in month one, so very early days yet :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
i will watch this with interest then ...it will be interesting to see how it works out for you ...although i have no doubt it will be great...might think about tweaking mine in a few months ...think i need to get back into the swing fully first though ...but when i do some tweaking will be needed and worth while ...as always cheers me dears ...its great finding these things out it certainly all helps towards the bigger picture0

Thats such a good idea! I'm off to rename my halifax account emergency choccie fund :rotfl:
Not been around much as it was lovely sunny weekend. Did catch up with thread whilst at work. Glad you had a lovely time at races and ended up in the black :T
My £20 is no more. Fraid as predicted mine lasted untouched until Sat when drinkies were drunk and farewell my friend.
I expect all the goody two shoes are still rolling in cash but hey ho I'll start again. My problem is once the 20 is cracked open I spend it very quicklyLooking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

Ah well, as long as you had a good weekend, that's all that matters!
And "emergency choccy fund" is a good enough account for me.....although mine might need to be paired up with "liposuction" fund :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Or put it this way (and this is how I'm off chocolate and weening myself off Coca Cola) for every £30 in chocolate a month, I have to pay another £90 in gym membership to burn it off...
I hate living in my area! :rotfl::beer: Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!
Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!
How do you amass £70k in a year?! :eek:0
