Nargleblast wrote: »Regarding your first posts about being criticised for how you spend money, all I can say is that there are not many people who can start with a debt of around £100,000 and get it paid off in about 3 years or so, even with the help of inherited money. It is clear that you have slogged long and hard to get where you are now, and anyone who has an issue with your kids going on school trips and holidays must have a touch of the green eye about them, so bullocks to the lot of them I say! This time next year it is a real possibility that you will be debt free so get your head down and focus on that target, but enjoy some quality of life on the way.
:T Well said Nargleblast...I think that echo's many peoples feelings on here.0 -

Choing ching (sp?), then fly to Beijing to visit the olympic venues and an overnight train to Shanghai.......she will be exhausted when she gets home!!
I was thinking about the "spending money on the kids" stuff.......perhaps if I had put Dad's money to one side, to spend on the children, and had used all the extra money we earn to pay the debt, the end result would be the same, but peoples perception of what I am doing might be different
So, basically, I have decided, that Dad left me money with which to ensure my children had opportunities that he would have loved to have given them. I have simply "borrowed" that money, and have been repaying it as and when it is needed.

Mmmm still wondering where to get my £20 from as I don't want to withdraw it from the bank. My phone IS going to ring with a new client and that's how i'll get the twenty!!!!
Great thread as usual Hypno and to make it fair how's about we all get £1000 for, say, a day and you get 20p for a year!!!! Give us a fighting chance!!! xx0 -

It seems strange that people would criticise you spending money on giving the kids opportunities when you are paying back your debt all by YOURSELVES you are not borrowing or asking the state to pay it etc its all being done by your hardworkSo what exactly would their point be in criticising I wonder? Plus your children accept that other things have to give as they do particularly expensive hobbies.
So definately not getting the point or need of criticising0 -

Well, yah boo sucks to them anyway.......I've had comments from people particularly close to me, which were very hurtful at the time, and I suppose I have just not forgotten what was said......but at the end of the day, we are doing what we are doing - the banks are still getting their 24.9% APR while the debt is outstanding, Egg still give me something to look forward to, everytime I pick an argument with them, and it all gives me plenty of opportunity for me to indulge in my passion for brainstormingSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. I will join in the £20 challenge if I may but I will be starting a week on Monday as that is when I am back from Wales!
Yah boo sucks indeed to those you think you are being bad allowing your kids to ski, go abroad etc - I wonder how many of them are living on the credit cards and overdraft all the time!Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup
