in Water bills
Is there any way of finding out if a certain house is on a water meter or not? thanks
Its to help me to decide on to rent it or not.
I had a viewing and forgot to find out. The rental company say they don't know and hence can't be bothered to find out for me :mad:

Depends on the area as you could just phone the water company and ask. There is no data protection issue there as you are not asking about billing etc.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Not so sure, you are asking about someones property arent you, they wont give out details like that.0

They will and do.
Those details are nothing to do with the data protection act , as that covers information held about a customer and a water meter or not is nothing to do with a customer.
The RV of a property can be found at the Local council office and the meter info is readily available as it breaches nothing. All properties built after 1991 have meters and any water company can tell straight away without even going into a customers account if a property is on RV or meter.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

I dont think this is true as SE water would not tell me0 -
I think often staff just quote data protection when they are not really sure whether they should say. IMO there is no reason why that kind of info can't be given out. Did SE water give a reason?0

Why not just knock on the door and ask?[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0

There is no data protection issue about how a property is supplied.
The act is clear, it is about information held and stored not about the property.
Water companies do give out this information every day of the week, it might have been how you asked......You can not ask about the bill
The question needs to be.Does this property have a water meter ?
is it connected for all services ?
What is the RV ?
This is not classified info and is available to anyone should they look anyway.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

It is true, they might not have told you but that might be more the way you asked then anything else.
The data protection act can be checked online and that does not apply.
But then you think I am wrong in everything so there is no point going through it as you would not believe a word I said anyway.
I am starting to think though that it is the way you talk to people as you seem to get a negative out of everything.

Data protection, they asked for what postcode, then a house number, then your name and water acct number. Im thinking they may well be right.0 -

No you do make sometime valid points but you also make some black white statements ie "its illegal for a water company to give a discount by DD"0
