I took my now 11 yr old to Spain when she was 6 weeks old. Was cool. She was born in early Nov and the passport office went out of their way to be helpful about issuing her passport quickly - and I bet that's all much better in these days of e-government. But (speaking as the mother) I really wouldn't book ahead of the birth - the new mum needs a chance to feel ok and find her feet a tiny bit. I loved travelling with my small baby but I think I waited till she was about 2 weeks old and I had an iota of sanity back!
