Booking an air ticket for an unborn child...

Options
Hi,

My wife and I are having a baby in October.

We'd like to take the baby to visit its extended family in Billund, Denmark in December.

We'd like to fly with Cimber Air. Their advance ticket price is about 80 quid each (their fully flex price - which means we can make changes to the information supplied - runs at 350 each)

The airline website and call center wants a DOB to book.

I`m trying to get my wife to commit to a schedule but I suspect she'll struggle :o

Is there anyway around this?

Any agents able to book an advance ticket for me, without requiring DOB?

Surely you can wait till October, when the baby is born? Won't they still have advance fares in October, two months before travel?

Also have you checked what their rules are about buying an infant ticket on its own are?

The baby won't get a seat, so there's no chance if you book the adults' seats now that the baby ticket will be sold out, just have to check if you can buy the infant ticket on its own at a later date.

Do you want to travel at Christmas or earlier in Deember?

Thanks. Probability is no. They dont fly for much of the Christmans period, and Saver seats are significantly limited to a handful on each flight.

Adding an infant to an existing adult ticket with this airline is classed as a change, which needs a $$$ fully flex ticket.

Thanks. We'd like to go out 21/22/23 Dec and then come back 2/3 January.

I have read that you can book an unborn baby as Infant Smith and add the name once the baby is born.

You should be able to make the change FOC, but the airline may charge.

It's the date of birth the OP is struggling with, not the name.

I don't know what to suggest. Maybe ring the airline and ask them how you can proceed?

If you read the article I linked to, I'm sure it was suggested in there to put in the due date and amend the name and the date once known.

If they want a DOB they are just being difficult because they don't need this. I booked Easyjet flights for my daughter before she was born and she was just listed as 'Infant Clarke'. The only time I need to provide her date of birth is when I sumit the advance passenger information before we fly.

Dont forget it now takes longer to obatin a 'first passport' which in your case will include sending the mother's passport or the father's passport & marriage certificate. Suggest you get the forms in advance and fill everything in you can to its ready to post the day you get the birth certificate.
