eBay petition

Just received the following -
eBay was built on a simple idea - that we could empower people by building a global trading platform where practically anyone could buy or sell practically anything. But that idea is now under threat from certain brand owners and manufacturers who are trying to turn back the clock and block the sale of their products on online marketplaces and other websites across the EU.
Ultimately, what is at stake is the right of sellers to compete
fairly in the wider online marketplace, and the right of buyers
to be able to access the best possible deals from the widest
possible selection of goods.

Some of these brand owners argue that their objective is to prevent the sale of counterfeits on eBay.
But thanks to our work with 31,000 other rights owners, only 0.15% of listings last year were detected or
reported as potentially counterfeit. The real aim of these brands is to block the sale of all their products on our site - regardless of whether such items are new or second-hand, genuine or fake. It's not just luxury items that are affected, but also everyday items like children's toys, electronic equipment, lawnmowers and pushchairs. And if we want to prevent other brand owners from following suit, we need to act now.
We are therefore calling on European policymakers to amend EU competition law to stop these unfair
trade practices. But we need your help to persuade them to take action. If you would like to join our
campaign against online trade barriers, please sign our petition. (link removed)

I don't understand.... is this a petition by ebay?My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Whos the petition being sent to?0

Clicked on the link in my email and it went to a ebay sign up with this on it
"Sign in to link your eBay account to eBay Government Relations"
Do I really wanna do this?0 -
I had this email and found it a bit laughable really when it quoted the amount of counterfeit items on the site. I collect certain fashion designers and my favourite search heaves with copies from Hong Kong and anywhere else the sellers can pretend they are in the world. I don't want brands to be banned from online sale like this but ebay have brought it on themselves by sitting on their hands and repeating 'we are only a venue'. They could have avoided this by developing decent search algorithms the employees could do to remove obvious counterfeit items. They never have.0

The email has come from eBay direct - it's sat in my eBay messages inbox.
However - on a number of occasions in the past, I, and many other sellers, have asked eBay for help with Vero issues, and been met by a brick wall and the "not our problem, take it up with the Vero holder" response.
It's a little cheeky for them now to be asking for our help in reigning in the whole restriction of trade issue.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Just received it in my inbox0

i just had the email too, its from ebay.0

And on the announcement board - http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200907061154492.html
I'm very sceptical as to the motive behind this.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
