rover 416 service - R Reg

Hi Guys,
I got my car 2 months ago and its due for an MOT and since i have no idea when last it was serviced, i want to send it in for a full service. there is also this noise near the exhaust. A friend of mine says the exhaust clip (not sure what that is) is missing and just needs to be secured. It also needs an ac recharge.
I considered going to kwikfit but i have read some bad reviews so I think its not a good idea.
My question is does anyone know a good local garage around woolwich or thamesmead I can use?
I found these guys online : xpartautoservice but i dont know if they are any good.
Help please.
Thanks

One more thing, i want to start building a service history. How do i go about this? Do i just get a log book? Sorry for the silly questions but this is my first car and im a new driver

Just keep the service receipts, a Rover of that age will not require a Service Book.

I would get the MOT done before spending any money on it.

@Inactive, thanks for the tip. I guess i should have said I need to get the MOT and servicing done.
Does the servicing cover things that will be testing in the MOT?

Not all items, as I said, get it MOT'd first before servicing it, see if it passes, or needs much spending, then take it from there.

There is little point in spending out on the car if it fails the MOT badly.

when you buy a car its always a good idea to service i9t and have the cambelt changed the cost of fitting a cambelt is far cheeper the the cost of fitting a cambelt, vlaves and headgasket! as for service history just keep your recipts safe and use them to prove your cars been serviced

    Why change the cambelt?

The head gasket will go anyway making the whole car scrap. Remember it's a Rover and they're $hite.

Oh that is really helpful for the OP isn't it. He comes on here, a newbie, asking for advice and you have to give abuse.

We all 'dish' it out at times - but you have to use a bit of common sense as to when and why etc. The OP had good advice from Inactive so why not leave it there?
