PlusNet Value £5.99 package V. Misleading

Thinking of changing my ISP so I looked into the cheapest stand alone ISP as recommended by ML which is PlusNet.
As well as charging £5.99 for the internet connection, PlusNet are also charging £10.95 per month for line rental making a monthly total of £16.94 as opposed to the £5.99 advertised. I already pay line rental to BT. I can't see how this is a good deal unless I'm missing something?

You will either pay line rental to BT or PlusNet. You cannot pay line rental twice!0

It doesnt say anything about existing BT customers on their website. Is this a way to get customers to change their phone to PlusNet as well?0

Not BT surely??????????????0

To quote their website -In January 2007 we were bought by BT. Now we run as an independent subsidiary from our offices in Sheffield
Also be aware that the £5.99/month internet is dependent on where you live and that there is an 18 month contract.Dave. :wave:0 -

I've already checked this and am in a 'Market 3' area so the £5.99 should remain the price after the first three months.
What I am still unclear on is whether I just have to pay the £5.99 per month to PlusNet and keep paying BT for line rental or do I have to change my phone line to PlusNet as well?0 -
It is not especially misleading. It is called "Plusnet Value Broadband". Every other company quotes headline figures for the broadband part only. On the front page immediately under the 5.99 it states '(requires line rental at £10.95 a month)'. It is more than £12 cheaper than the standard retail price of landline rental and standard broadband.
If you think you can receive something for £6 that most others price at between £17 and £29.50 then clearly you may have overlooked something.0 -
