Sky TV - Landline question

I currently have Virgin media but I am considering moving to Sky. I understand that I have to have a landline which the box can be connected to which obviously my cable line doesn't count for. I did have a BT line to the house up until about 18 months ago for work so I am assuming that I don't need to pay the £125 for reconnection? As long as I pay Sky for the line rental that is fine?

Any help would be great as the whole installation thing is confusing me a bit with regards to this phone line issue.

Just ring Sky, they will sort it all for you. Haggle, haggle haggle is the word with Sky, they will give you half price rental, half price this, this free, that free if you just tell them 'you are thinking about it' and let them think that they have talked you into it. - works in your favour every time.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Oh Ok I think that I will give that a try!

I am not totally awesome at Haggling but I am not 100% desperate to switch so I suppose that helps as I can walk away.

Your cable line is fine - I use my Virgin telephone line with my Sky box.

SkyTalk will reconnect it for you ,but it would normally only be foc if the wiring between your home and the exchange is intact the socket is undamaged, and the line still has dialling tone.

I have a Virgin phone line and Sky no problems with that arrangement. Also I don't have my Sky+ box connected to the phone line.

we were told that we had to have our telephone line attached to our sky box, but we never have, and our sky + works fine. I think you only need it if you want to order movies etc so the box can communicate your payment.
    mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊

I had sky tv installed last Sunday. They need to connect to your phone line to complete the installation. I only have a cable phone connection so they used that. I don't think there's any other reason you would need a landline.
However, if you do tell Sky you want a landline they will connect it for £25 - a bit different to BT!
I just told Sky I was considering their phone and broadband package but the BT connection fee was putting me off.

Yeah £25 dearer then BT who will do it for Free.:D

You dont actually need a landline at all to get SKY you can pay a one off fee of £25 and they will dispense with the requirement.

You don't have to have a telephone connection unless you have more than one Sky Digibox on "multiroom" contract. Sky will waive the requirement if you pay a one-off £25 fee.

BT will only do it for free on a specific contract . £11 a month line rental plus a certain number of paid calls per month. If you don't take that offer they charge £122.
